Still haveing pain

hi I am 1 year after having my total knee replacement I can't say I have ever been pain free but for the last 2 weeks I have had so much pain down the side of the knee I was just wondering if anyone else as had this problem I also can't kneel yet is this normal my surgeon wants to do the other knee but I would really like for the first one to feel a little better first would be grateful for any advice x

I was told by my surgeon that I may never kneel again.  I can do so but gingerly and a bruise is the usual result because there is some deadened nerves there.

I'm 7 months out.  Don't really have advice other than touch base with your MD and see what they have to say.  Are you off pain killers?

I am going in on Oct 27th for a revision, it will be one year after the primary TKR. I just don't think it is right to still have pain & discomfort - ask for an ultrasound or long leg x-ray to make sure it is in OK. Mine, & others on here, have suffered for a year or more, to discover the implants are misaligned & oversized. The odds are you will be OK, but please, get it checked out & don't take no for an answer, it's your body, your pain, & your life!

Hi Cath

it doesn't seem right if you are suddenly feeling severe pain, so I would get it checked out.  I don't think that kneeling is ever recommended.  I've only ever knelt on my first knee (replaced Dec 2012) once...a year after an MUA and desperately trying to get out of a very wide hotel bath.

I've had continuous pain since my second knee was done 11 months ago and an MUA in March was not successful in straightening it, so I'm back in hospital again next month.

I wish you well.

Patsy

Thank you sky I was off pain meds but bake on them now I see the surgeon in November he wants me to have the other one done but really don't want till I no this is ok

Thanks Veronica I will hope you get everything sorted

The pain I am having is right down the side of the knee really didn't want to go back on meds but I had to its been such a hard year don't think I could go through it all again hope everything goes well for you next month patsy

No point going thru that pain without help.  Hopefully enough relief to sleep?

Definitely worth getting it checked out. I'm 6 months post TKR and now waiting for a total revision and all ligaments stripping out. I've never stopped medication. I'm still in constant pain, walk with a bad limp (leg bent at -30/40 and will only bend to 80-90) and extremely restricted on my daily life. Don't suffer with pain. Better to find out if there's anything wrong. It will at least put your mind at rest.

You are lucky they have agreed so early down this painful line. I'm being made to wait the full year. They are stripping the ligaments out with me too. 8 weeks to go now for me. I'm scared stiff, but the thought of living with this stiffness , limping & pain scares me more. I really think we are not told the failure total, or how brutal this operation is at the begining of our journeys. I have my pre-op tests tomorrow, that will make it feel more real!

Unfortunately they can't wait that long with me. My leg won't last the year apparently. I risk losing it. You'll have to let me know how you get on.

Wishing you all the best, Veronica.

I'm in constant pain too, and more so since my lovely (yes, she is lovely) tried to bend me knee backwards after massaging 3 weeks ago.  My x-Rays look OK, but my consultant thinks I have excess scar tissue.  I'm scared I case it's something more involved.  This is a bespoke knee, but has been more or a problem than even my other knee was.  I've had to wait a year, too, and will be going back in to have my knee opened up again 25 Sept.
