Is this another weird and wonderful anxiety symptom. If i try to fall asleep just as I'm nodding off i jerk awake gasping for breath as if I've stopped breathing. It can happen a few times until i must be so tired i fall asleep. I then sleep until around 5ish. When i wake up then I'm not gasping for breath but when I try to get back to sleep the same thing happens. It also happens when I try to nap through the day. Through the day i constantly have a tight chest and take deep breaths and yawn alot. The dr doesn't think sleep apnea cos it doesn't happen through the night once I've finally fallen asleep but thinks it might be anxiety related. I suffer from GAD and have done for years. Anyone else experience this?
I had something similar and my doctor said it was also anxiety. Eventually it started happening less often as I worked on developing a better sleeping/relaxing routine. My main medical concern would have been sleep apnea, but it sounds like you've already discussed with your doctor!
Thanx for responding. Doc seems to think if it was sleep apnea it would happen more often through the night not just when I'm falling asleep. I try to go to bed at the same time each night, listen to music or breathing exercises but doesn't seem to make a difference. It's the tight chest and difficulty breathing through the day that is tough
That’s also a symptom of sleep apnoea. With getting checked out.
