Hi I wonder if anyone on here could advise me please. My mum is 87. Yesterday she woke up and she said half of her vision was gone in one eye. Today she says she is now seeing flashing coloured lights. Am worried its serious but she refuses to go to A and E or an optician. She has however agreed to go to the doctor if I ca get her an appointment. I have to ring up after 2 today to see if there are any afternoon appointments. Has anyone had any experience of this as I am worried that the go isnt an eye specialist.
Hi Karena, I would worry that it is GCA and that your mum could lose her sight completely. If it is GCA, it is an emergency

When you speak to the GP mention GCA because your mum has already lost the sight in one eye. I hope I am wrong.
Good luck.
Thanks mrsmop. That's what I'm worried about, although she says that the loss of vision at the side of her eye seems not as bad now. Have managed to get an emergency appointment for 5 o clock today though so hopefully will get diagnosis.
I'm glad that you've got her an appointment, will she allow you to go in with her? I hope so.
No won't be allowed in with her - very independent and likes to be in control. I think she will be sent straight to hospital bushes will go if the doctor tells her
