Went out with my friends last night for some drinks..why does alcohol make you feel worse? This evening I have just felt absolutely garbage, I seriousyl thought about suicide and putting my head in the sink of water. I actually did three or four times, but didn't actually go through with it. I feel so down, horrible, I've had depression for about 5 years...does it ever get better?
Hi Quango1
We note from a recent post which you have made to our forum that you may be experiencing thoughts around self-harm. If we have misinterpreted your comments then we apologies for contacting you directly. But if you are having such thoughts then please note that you are not alone in this, and there are people out there that can help.
If you are having these suicidal thoughts then we strongly recommend you speak to someone who may be able to help. The Samaritans offer a safe space where you can talk openly about what you are going through. They can help you explore your options, understand your problems better, or just be there to listen.
Their contact details are on our patient information leaflet here: https://patient.info/health/dealing-with-suicidal-thoughts, which also offers lots of other advice on how you can access the help you may need.
If you are having such thoughts then please do reach out to the team at the Samaritans (or the other people detailed in our leaflet) who will understand what you're going through and will be able to help.
Kindest regards
Patient

You drink alcohol, in excess Quango your mood will be affected. Drink will make you depressed.
There are no reasons you should not drink, know your limits and the effects Alcohol will have on you.
I drink, although I know my limits, I also restrict the number of drinks I will have on a weekly basis.
You need to understand you need to take responsibility for your own actions and health.
Trying to drown yourself in a washbasin, your body will not allow you to pass over, it will gag and your breathing will kick in and prevent You from taking your Life.
If you are considering Suicide it is important you talk to your GP or CPN etc and explain your attempt and the negativity associated with your mood and illness.
If you feel the need to take your life you can contact NHS iNFORMATION lINE on Tel 111 and explain your fears, they can contact the Crisis Team, or take you to a place of safety.
You can also go to A and E and explain your depression, they will attend and see you through your Crisis and possible arrange the Crisis team to see you.
Five years is a long time for a Depressive illness, although given time and help from Medical Professionals. you should be able to move on, although you yourself will need to help yourself
