Hello . i have hsv2 and i got my initial outbreak 3 month ago. and after the first one i got another one. and after that i had 2 month of scares and prodrome feelings which i took 4 days of 300 mg 3 times a day just to be sure i dont get an outbreak.
8 days ago i felt i am having a prodrome feeling so i took for 5 days and i saw in the same place i had before dots under the skin and the doctor told me to take 3 more days .
now that i finished it and i i am going on a vacation in 4 days for 3 weeks and i don't want to get an outbreak there. can i take take for the remining days as suppressive therapy 2 times 400 mg zovirax twice a day just to be sure? or when i stop i will trigger an outbreak? because i read online that people who take suppressive medication for some time usually get an outbreak after they stop. is it true if i take it for two weeks (what i took plus these extra days) ? i am thinking what is better to stop now everything or to take more until my trip? because on the trip i will be drinking and eating junk. i would stay on it but i know the medication with alcohol is bad. please help me understand and decide thanks you.
I take 2-500 mg per day everyday . I haven't had the outbreak like what I have read on this site. All I had was SEVERE itching and strange sensation in my anal area. I talked to my doctor about taking valacyclovir every day she told me I could

Maybe you can ask your dr for the cream for your trip. If your going to binge you probably need to take it daily because alcohol and junk are triggers for most ppl.
but the cream is only for the mouth i think and i have hsv2.

Yes, you can take the suppressive dose while you are on holiday. Lots do. I don't expect that you will have a 'bounce back' outbreak after just a few weeks of suppression - usually that happens after 6 months or a year of treatment.
The acyclovir cream that is sold in chemists in the UK is shown to be medically useless. I am using a Melissa officnalis cream (Lomaherpan) that I buy from the Herpes Viruses Association.
I've never used any meds I just recently after 4 years started getting bumps I always had the tingle and itch but no bumps until a few months ago. 1 inner thigh bump small itched a little and now 2 inner butt cheek red and small. I def think you should ask your dr about the daily suppressive therapy since u will be gone on vacation 2 weeks not the place you want an outbreak
Don't bother with acyclovir cream - if treatment is needed or wanted, then acyclovir pills are the way to go. The cream has been shown not be useful
Have you tried the cream. I've had herpes for some years now I'm just getting or realize these bumps I dismissed are herpes what do you use to minimize your itch or get rid of your outbreaks??
The problem is i want to be able to drink alcohol. saw i thought to take now before i go and stop when i get there in a few days. or this is worthless?

I think you should take them your entire trip. Experiment when you get back if you don't want to take them daily. Vacation not the place to be uncomfortable.

If you read side effects it's says may increase side effects if u drink. Alcohol is supposed to be a herpes trigger for most ppl anyway. So either you don't go hard just enough to get a buzz and for sure don't drive or don't drink at all and take your pills which can still potentially have side effects. Everyone's bodies are different. I have a friend that drinks and smokes every day and she gets outbreaks every 6-8 yrs and isn't on any meds.
If your having an ob now can u experiment before u on your trip see how ur body reacts to skipping a dose
im not really having an outbreak now i think its all stress so i tool episodic treatment but later i dont know if to take suppresive while on the trip or just wait for symptoms if i do have them. i wonder what can trigger an outbreak taking medication wise like skipping or taking too much for no reason like i do ( i take episodic treatment every time i think i am having symptoms).its all a mystery the doctors don't have 100 percent answers. is it even helpfull to take for a short time before a trip or something like that or is it only working for that time?
