Problemas sorprendentes del cabello

I don't mind my hair becoming curly; it's cheaper than a perm. After I was on pred for awhile the hair coloring my beautician always used started resulting in a different shade. At first he thought he made a mistake and double checked the formula. Apparently the medication enters the hair shaft over time changing its characteristics. The same thing happened after I was very ill in 2012. I had been treated with assorted antibiotics, antifungals, par enteral nutrition and pain killers. My brown hair came out red with the same formula.

Can anyone relate? I'm not ready to go grey- yet.

Don't know about the colouring issues, as I never have.  But lately my hair feels like it's back to its normal thickness, although I seem to be losing great handfuls of it, and I wonder if what's happening is that the hair which is coming out now is the hair which was growing in when I was at higher doses of pred, and had much thinner hair with different characteristics than I did before and do now?

Nothing wrong with being a natural platinum blonde   I was almost white at 40 - and abandoned the chemical colour I had used for 10 years after the day before I was 30 I looked in the mirror and decided they didn't look like the greatly admired silver streaks any more! Tried lighter colours but couldn't find one I liked and since then - I've use the money for better things

prednisone impacts hair for sure.  I always had dense hair and for every haircut I needed thining.  I still need it, but much less and only in the back and sides. Seems like pred is doing thining for me at the top of the head .  Also hair feels less flexible, kind of dry. It must be one of side effects of using pred, oh well ... there are worse things in life then "bad" hair.

Often it isn't the pred - it is the illness itself but it doesn't start being noticeable for some months after being ill. I had a really bad hair period 4 or 5 months after being in hospital with something else - I'd been on pred for years by then and it hadn't been too much of a problem before. But it all grew back - at first curly and then as it got longer, less curly. Now the long top hair is fairly easy to blow-dry smooth - the shorter hair underneat around the nape of my neck is still very unmanageably curly...

My very fine, straight hair started becoming wavy about 18 months ago. I initially put it down to 6 months on MTX, but it's still wavy one year on. I've been on high doses of pred for about 2.5 years. Now finally managed to taper to 10.5mg.

I hope it stays wavy, love it. I shampoo and I'm ready to go. No need for lengthy styling. 😊
