swelling behind knee

Hi

4 weeks post op after partial knee replacement, have started having more pain while in bed. Today feeling sick and dizzy tonight and have ache behind knee with large swelling.

Any ideas

From 3 weeks to 8 weeks I had pain and flu like symptoms. I didn't know what was going on. Your body is reacting to the surgery. Give yourself some time. I promise it will get better

You may want to double check with your doctor, just in case.

I am 13 weeks and it will get better I had a full replacement . I was the same I felt dreadful also with no energy no appetite, and felt so depressed , that never happens to me . I really thought I was never going to feel better , trust me you still have a tough journey , but the tide will turn and it will start to feel so much better

Take care

Thanks for the replies. Phoned GP who said that I need to elevate more during the day as I have been sitting normally and doing housework etc and to take anti inflammatory tablets during the day not just at night,  Hopefully will get better.

Ah yes!

I had TKR 3 and a half years ago.

I was about 3 or 4 weeks post op and began to have problems sleeping because of the pain in my knee.

Up till then I had been a really good sleeper so this came as a total surprise to me.

A couple of things that might help.

Lie on your back with a pillow under yur knee.

You may find you have to get up in the night and put a cold flannel or even ice on the knee.

I think what happened to me is if I was moving about a bit during the day the when I went to bed I initially went to sleep quite quickly.

But I would then wake up agian an hour or so later with pain in my knee and could not get back to sleep again for ages. Probably it was stiffness more than anything else.

Hope some of this helps

Good night!

Hi sarah yea i agreechad same thing . Have to say i have an elelectric blanket which i put on at night if knee started the bit of warmth helped no end .

today is a bad day .11 weeks in i find myself frightened and anxious and cant stop crying . Knee doing ok generally but its this stumbling thing that keeps happening so am frightened walking .i keep trying without stick but find my balance isnt great and i feel vulnerable . This is because of my nasty fall at 4 weeks injuring my back . Just want my life back and to be normal again .I hear people talking of work but i dont have a prayer of being at work anytime soon . Am i negative

No gill you are not negative, just realistic. Better to tell it as it is.

It does get better with time.

Just be patient.

Take care and keep in touch

Thankyou sarah its good your on here because only peoole having this op know hoe it feels . Its been a big shock nothing prepared me for this at all i assumed i would be fzbulous . Do you think this stumbling thing is anything to worry about

Not sure about the stumbling. Check it out with a GP or your consultant.

The only thing I was not prepared for was trouble with sleeping.

Maybe I should have WOKEN UP!!! to the fact that this would happen.

The not sleeping is truly a nightmare! Even with prescription sleep aid I am having difficulty falling asleep and staying asleep.
