Swollen hot red knees

Ok i think ive done something. Felt GREAT today so decided to get in the back garden and weed...ohhhh it needed it. I used the kneel rest with handles for gardeners. It was great. I knelt down no problem.... no pain. Came inside had a shower cooked dinner ....my son and family ca n e over. I thought wow my knees feel sore ...i rolled up my shorts. Oh my goodness they are red...hot and so swollwn. Ive iced them. But its not helping.

I used to garden like this all the time. Its not a new position for me. Im 5 weeks 1 day post op. Any ideas.

Hi Sassy,

I think you oved did it...Sometimes our body needs some extra rest. I had the same experience, in the evening I am much slower and everything aches.

Rest for a day and you'll be back to normal

All the best

Ella

Think is your knees telling you they are not ready for kneeling!!  Sounds like an inflammatory response and with some rest ice and elevation it should settle again. Won't be an over night recovery though! Mite take a week or so 😞

I would say if despite doing all the right things the redness worsens over next couple of days it might be worth a doctors opinion x

Sorry will add i had a hip replacement not knee. So why are my knees objecting

The femur is from the hip to the knee. The surgeon moved muscle and tendons to get to that bone. I still have a problem kneeling, knee pain. Most of my swelling after hip surgery was in my knee. They are related, I think you were just on your knees too long. Try elevating your legs above your heart. Feel better!

Definitely think you have over done it I am 5 months post op and I still have problems kneeling I am waiting for my other hip to be done

Wow sassy amazed at 5 weeks ypu can kneel ! I'm just about there !

Agree with others probably just overdone it and I find different movement /position takes getting used to ! My knee (back of) was really uncomfortable when I first went back to driving but Ok now .

Rest up

Regards Denise

Hi sassy,

Still waiting for my date but thought you might be interested in a couple of things. My physio told me that my body will give very clear indications when I have overdone it. It sounds like your knees have just shouted at you. Listen to them and give it another go in a couple of weeks.

The other point, following our conversation regarding having sex after op is that at my pre op assessment I was given a handout of sexual positions complete with drawings of the positions. Interesting but they recommend exactly as we had previously thought!

In addition to rest, elevation and ice, you might try an anti-inflammatory as well.  My doctor told me that my entire body would be re-aligning itself so to expect pain in other places than my hip.  I had my right hip done, but I sometimes have pain in my left leg.  I ice and elevate both knees immediately after any exercise and this seems to keep most of the pain and swelling at bay.  You are such an intrepid soul!  I'm at 9 weeks and just went out to do some pruning yesterday!

5 weeks post-op for me and I am so frustrated! My procedure was bikini anterior, so no cutting muscle and tendons. I was led to believe that by 4-6 weeks I would be back doing my normal activities, with some swelling and discomfort being normal. Well, I certainly have some swelling, but discomfort? More like stabbing pain! I can't walk or bend over without severe twingeing in my bum and am so sick of myself 😠 Was pretty much pain free from week 2 and have been walking fine without aids till about 4 weeks, then the rot set in. I have as much pain now as I did before the hip replacement.

Girl...i would be going back to your doc. Apart from my own stupidity. ...im pain free...i.was posterier. ....

My knees today are so sore to touch and stiff when i walk. Definitely bruised Curled up today with some movies.
