I was put on 50mcg of the stuff at xmas 2013, then after 3months put on 100mcgs. First of all I felt all over the place, disorientated like I had vertigo, then I changed to taking the pill last thing at night and the difference is remarkable, I wake up earlier, feel more refreshed and active, the feeling of disorientation has gone and my recent blood test was excellent and the doseage was working. Has anyone else had similar symptoms and found changing to a nightly dose has really helped them.
Hi Doreen. Yes, I was taking my levo every morning and feeling awful. It was like that for around 3 years. I was advised to take it at night instead and the change was remarkable. Much more energy and brain fog went. Apparently it doesn't work that way for everyone, but if you are feeling unwell on your dose of levo it is certainly worth a try.

Hi Doreen and Jennifer -
This is very encouraging and interesting news! as per other discussion where I read about this first, I am definitely going to try this and so please keep everything x'd for me that it works for me too! cos I am getting nowhere in trying to persuade my doctor to increase my dose (normal/borderline results but still symptomatic)
Thank you ladies!! x
Hello Christine! Glad to be of help. The way I changed over was to take my levo in the morning as usual, then another dose in the evening, then every evening from then on. I felt the change in my body almost straight away; others have said it took a week or so to see a difference. Best of luck and fingers crossed! Let me know how you get on...
Jen
Ah thanks for pointing that out, I see cos otherwise you'd go almost 2 days between doses - will do. I shall start by taking an additional 50mcg tonight! Is it the empty stomach that makes the difference do you think? Cos i usually take my (morning) dose with a shedload of other pills I have to take at breakfast - maybe thats whats making it less effective - taking it at the same time as naproxen, codeine, lithium, valproate... etc etc...
I really really hope I feel the same difference you experienced right away - i am getting proper fed up of feeling this way, especially since I know its not depression, I can tell the difference, and I was fine til my thyroid went kaput. I wish Id never let the psychiatrist recommend lithium now, if i had know just how troublesome the Thyroid gland could be - they make it sound like, 'well lithium can affect your thyroid but its a simple matter to supplement it with thyroxine' ....!!! Not that simple after all, i now discover, worse luck.
And stopping lithium now wouldnt make much difference - the damage is permanent, apparently.
Will report back in a week, keep em X'd for me! thanks again Jen x
Oh hope it works will be willing to try this myself suck of feeling disorientated and do aced out x
Morning Christine! It does matter a great deal that you take your thyroxine well away from other meds, especially iron and calcium. A rule of thumb is to take your thyroxine 2 hours away from any food, pills, supplements and drinks, except water, and 4 hours away from calcium and iron. Got my fingers x'd for you! Jen x
Hi I changed my dosage time and now taking it at night. 4 nights in and my symptoms are worseachey legs and feet, and forfetful. Hoping this will change after a week or so. willkeep you all posted. has anyone else started the change yet
hi all thought I would let you all know that I was unable to keep taking my Levo at night. My symptoms are the worst that they have ever been. My whole body aches like hell and my feet are at their worst I can hardly walk when I get out of bed. I took Levo at night for about 3 weeks so thought that if my symptoms were to get better then they would have by them. It was worth a try in any case suppose I will go and annoy my GP again and hope that she listens to me and either reduce my Levo or help solve my symptoms.
I have just found out that a small swelling under my foor is a fibrosis which is caused by a calcium build up, nothing much can be done about it and it effects walking and slight pain. I was suprised to read thyroid problems are associated with this ailment.I would be interested if anyone else has this problem please.
Yes, I also changed to taking it at night. My symptoms were similar but also nausea and gas in the morning, I could barely get food down. Now I am A OK and feel really good all day.
Hi Rose how long was it before you started to feel better one night time dose.
Almost immediately, at least within 3-4 days. I also have changed when I take my calcium, vit. D, and magnesium. I don't take them all together at night. I take my thyroid at night before bed and the others during the day. Right now am feeling great with this regimen. Good Luck.
Hi,
This is so interesting to read, I have been on levo for 7 weeks now and feel worse than I did before I went on it. I used to be able to get up and run every morning and since being on the medicine I simply can't get out of bed in the morning, I get the worst headrush when I do and feel really dizzy.
Can I though what time do you take it at night? And what do you do about eating and drinking? How long do you stop before taking it?
Thank you!
I stop eating at roughly 10pm and go to bed at around midnight. Like you I had and have similar symptoms, however I find taking the levo at night is best for me, it is a slow process I have been told from long term users before you feel the benefits of taking the drug.
I also take mine after 10pm. About 2-3 hours after dinner. For years I took it first thing in the morning before food. I suffered from nausea, headache and brain fog until I changed the timing. I am probably 50% better now after 3 months of taking it at night. Worth a try.
what mcg are you on I am on 100mcgs. just begining to feel normal again,it has taken 6 months.
I was on 100 mcgs for years but recently upped it to 114 mcgs. They don't make a tablet that amount so I have to take one extra pill per week. I usually take two on sundays so I don't forget.
What a palava, I am sure I would forget. Funny thing is I never even knew I had an underactive thyroid and felt okay. I guess a whole load of people would be diagnosed with it if their GP got them checked for it. I heard 33% of the UK population is suffering either with over or under active thyroid problems.
I changed to taking my tablets at night about a month ago and I feel so much better no feeling sick in the morning no giddiness on the walk to work and no muzzy headed feeling brilliant.
