Taking Vitamins during Pancreas Fasting?

I would like to rest my Pancreas a bit. Decided to fast, but the question is, can I still take my vitamins and supplements?

Yes. You still take all your medication, vitamins, etc. When resting your pancreas, what one normally does is stick to a liquid diet. I would recommend starting with chicken broth for a day or two then Ensure (if you don’t have nausea) then a couple days later introduce low fat/sugar bland foods. Eat six small meals rather than three big meals because it’s easier for the stomach to digest. You also need to stay very hydrated. If you have pain, you can try Tylenol (no Aspirin or Motrin because those affect the stomach lining). Heat packs also help with pain. Oh and when you are able to eat, I recommend eating an orange a day (not the juice). Oranges are natural anti-inflammatories, they really do help with pain but it does take time. I hope you feel better soon.

Hi, thanks a lot for the answer. Do you usually make your own chicken broth or what is the best solution for this? Doesnt chicken broth have a lot of fat?

To be honest, I have never considered making homemade chicken broth. I get so nauseous sometimes that just the smell of food makes me puke. I keep a ton of the bullion cubes or the powder and use those products. They make gluten free and low sodium types. It’s quicker and I don’t usually have a lot of energy. My pancreas specialist advised me what I use is perfectly fine. It’s just important to stay hydrated and keep a diet around 20 grams of fat a day if you have CP. I do drink Ensure (doctor recommended since those also contain nutrients and broth doesn’t). If you have ever stayed in the hospital for a pancreatitis attack, the hospital will give you homemade chicken broth. I don’t think it contains too much fat. I actually expected the fake broth and was surprised by the real stuff. I think you will be fine, with either one but watch the sodium intake because that can dehydrate you and the pancreas doesn’t like to be dehydrated.
