have been suffering with enlarged prosterate so went to see the doctor,had all the tests done to make sure there was no cancer...tests were clear,so started on the above tablets ....they work off and on for a week or two Im fine then the burning symtoms re-appear ,urinating when I stand up from sitting dowm ...once or twice during the night....but yesterday in work it felt like i was passing a razor bladeand the pain was continuous for 4 hours ...when i got home i drank about 3 pints of liquid and after a few painful pees the symtom eased.got up once in the night and felt no pain when urinating ...but as today has gone on a little pain when urinating has returned....and when peeing Im only able to pass a small amount of urine ....what I will say is the more i drink the better it gets.....could this be an infection?
When you have BPH and your bladder is not emptying properly you will get bladder infections and prostatitis like you seem to have.
Once the infection is initially cleared up and they tend to frequently recur your drugs will only put of the day that you need one of the permanent solutions you can read of in this forum.
I have had GL Laser when prostate was 75grms that I was very happy with as it was a very quick recovery. When my prostate regrew to 135 grms I had Thulium/Holmium laser surgery. That recovery was longer as the catheter was left in for longer than it should have been and I got an infection.
Now I would first consider PAE as it seems to be a permanent solution and is non surgical. If you are in the UK you very often have to fight the NHS for the solution of your choice.
Hi, sounds like an infection...i guess a trip to Dr`s will put you on one of the ciprofloxacin family of anti-bio`s....But i tend to agree with Derek76, Yes an infection can clear and if it is not "prostate related (UTI`s can happen thru many ways?) but if there is any BPH or blockage in the bladder neck or urethera, inevitably a procedeure is required... read this forum very carefully before you decide on a procedeure!! standard TURP ..Green-Light laser turp, pae, urolift...among a few of the options.. i had a standard turp, no bph, but same symtoms as you...was a slight blockage at the neck of the bladder, after an horrendous UTI ( 5 weeks of razor blades) and various anyi-bio`s, now 13 month`s down the line i am pretty much fine..started cycling within 3 weeks!! some diuscomfort for several month`s but ok now!! howevere TURP is a boring through job, and removal of tissue,,side effects (RE) no ejaculation, but sex is great! and some people do not get on with the op!!! so be aware...if like me you will be using ~UK facilities you may have to shout a lot for anything but TURP!! i would recommend other procedeures first esp if you are under say...65!! good luck, keep positive...Syd
Sounds like an infection of some kind. I was on the same drugs for years and finally had a TURP done, as most on this site know the 'normal' size of a prostate is 40 g, mine was just over 100, so a Turp was done to 'resize' it. The prostate is often referred to as a 'wild weed' and continues to grow. Yes you will hear alot about different types of procedures being done on men with our problem. I won't comment on what other's think, it's up to YOU to decide along with your Doctor on what is best for YOU. We all have to life with what we choose to assist us with this situation. I hope that you get some resolve ASAP. Get to a Dr. soon and get some help, why suffer any longer?
I'm just great thanks, and the retro, is not an issue for me, I know for most posts that I have read on here, ejaculation is a major issue with them. I don't know if they are porn stars or not. LOL. But it seems to take over the conversation. If you have ever had a catheter in you for 90 days, you will look for a solution to resolve the problem. It changed my whole personality and its wasn't good. Trust me "ejaculation" was the furtherst thing on my mind for thoe 90 days.
For those those who have to live using a catheter I certainly wish them the best, you have to do what you have to do in order for your body to function properly.
I just recently lost a former boss to prostate cancer, and I might add a few others, I also know lots who have had the prostate removed because of PSA being to high, and they thought it best to deal with it in that manner. The choice and circumstances, is up to the individual.
My 'opinion' is just that, an opinion, and this site abounds with them, what matters is YOUR opinon and YOUR Dr.'s advice to you.
I will be 70 next month, and just came home from the gym. Life could not be better. I know that the Turp was the right procedure for me to have done,and I do not regret it one iota. Trust me, I have more erections, than ever before ..... ain't life grand. All the best.
Uro's at my local hospital were totally against any laser procedures and said that they were not done at their hospital. One day I saw a locum consultant who said it had been done there for about five years by a urologist who mainly treated cancer patients. Four months later he dealt with my prostate.
It seems that you and I are in a minority in that we are completely satisfied with the outcome of our TURP operation as I have read may negative comments. I guess there are many factors that could influence the outcome such as the competence of the surgeon, the initial prostate size and one's general state of health at the time.
I have also noted with surprise the range of options that has been mentioned in numerous posts.ranging from medication to various surgical interventions. I was only offered two: catheterisation or TURP. I rejected self-catheterisation due to the very bad experience (dealt with ih another post) I had when being instructed in the procedure and following my recovery from that some seven months with a catheter in place. I feel that I managed that quite well but did not want it as a permanent situation so I took the only other offer-TURP, a decision which some three months down the track I have no reason to regret.
Some few weeks after the operation I did experience a quite amazing erection both in its rigidity and duration but regettably this situation has not been repeated-truly a one-njght stand. I can confirm that I have retrograde ejaculation which feels a bit strange and I am wondering if this is a permanent situation or whether in time normal service is resumed.
After the recommended six week light duties I was able to return to my regular exercise shedule without any problems
Good to hear that you are satisifed with your procedure. I can fully understand why you would choose the TURP over cathererisation. I actually went to Vancouver after a long wait in Victoria to get in for a TURP here, and was going to pay $7000.00 for a Prostate Plasma Vaporization . The surgeon there examined me and said, "I'm going to refer you to another specialist. at Richmond Hospital for a TURP, that's right, he walked away from $7000 to refer me to another specialist. He said that a TURP in my case was the best solution,.
I have not looked back for a second.
I truly don't care if I ever have a "wet ejaculation" or not. I'm healthy and on "NO" medication whatsoever, that's all that matters to me.

I had a TURP done on February 8th here in Perth Western Australia.
The operation went well and I'm happy with the results. It does effect the line pressure during ejaculation but I can still splash out on my partner, if desired well enough.
It has fixed the flow issues although I still get up a lot to go to the toilet at times but bladder behaviour is more than flow, it is a complex subject. The doctor did prescribe some tablets but I can't be bothered taking more tablets.
Overall happy enough with the results and would recommend the TURP operation to others based on my experience.
Your experience reflects the attitudes of Uro's around 2000 when there were few alternatives to TURP. When Avodart came on the market the Uro I was seeing (UK) would not consider it saying it is new, it is expensive and in six months will be gone.
