A strange question. I will generalise when i make the comment alot or most hip replacements are performed on older people who probably wouldnt have or want a tattoo. I mean no offense by saying this. I am at the younger end of the scale and want a tattoo...just a small one of paws to remember the beautiful dogs ive lost ( huge dog fan and ex rescuer here). They are a form of art work these days Ive heard i cant have tattoos in fear of infection and rejection. Has anyone actally had a rejected hip???? Please i mean no offense by this pist or the wording of it.
I can't advise about tattoos but I know if you need dental work within 2 years of your op you need to take antibiotics in case of bone infection in the new joint.
I can't advise on tattoos either but my specialist said 6 weeks for dental work after that no need to worry unless very invasive work then an antibiotic was advisable. Ask your doctor he is the best person to advise you.
Yes i read that too. I was lucky i broke a tooth 2 weeks ago. I had an appointment to get it c fixed and i just happened to mention it to the nurse that called to confirm my surgery time etc. She literally screamed down yhe phone no no no. You cant. If you have dental work now it will put your surgery back at least 3 months. Glad i mentioned it
I think there was a thread where people were talking about having tattoos to remember their hip op, so it is done. I think there is recommended time post op, a good tattooist will probably know all about it
I had root canal work after checking with consultant when 7 weeks
pre op. Anti bios of course, dentist was delighted to remove a source
of infection. Consultant said any later dental work and he would delay
op date.
Also had dental work 6 months after 1 st hip op, again with antibios.
consultant says always have antibios if you are cut, once you have
an artificial hipPLUS never have an MRI with my type of hip.
this is advice in Portugal.

I was told that any type of procedure minor or major I will have to take antibiotics before procedure for the rest of my life. They worry about infections like Mrsa.
A dental cleaning, colonoscopy, and whatever else. On the news they talked about a women who got an infection in her replaced knee from flossing her own teeth, be careful with any part of your body that bleeds.

I know that we had a lot of tatoos shown here on the forum - but they were, of course, already existing ....
Like the others, I, too, was told I would have to have antibiotics before any dental work (or any other invasive surgery) for at least 2 years. Infections in other parts of your body can migrate to your hip. If not caught early, these infections can be pretty rough. You should read up about what happens with an infected hip and the necessary treatment before deciding on a tattoo. You should also talk to your doctor before doing it. I'm not trying to scare you but you will have to decide if you feel it's worth it.
