From advice given to me earlier today I've decided to make an appointment with my GP to talk about my options and how I'm feeling. I hope they don't put me on mess, I don't like the idea of going down that road just now as I don't feel like I'm that far down the line yet (but we'll see what he says).
I was thinking about therapy and if it was worth a try. I can't afford private therapy sessions so I was wondering if online therapy was any good? I know it probably won't be as good as face-to-face stuff but is it worth a shot? At least until I speak to my GP. I can't bare feeling like this for another 4 weeks!
Hi underdog, if you dont think you are that far down the line then youre probably not and tgats a good thing? Ive had years of therapy and countless kinds of meds but i really was that far down the line and even now have problems? Think you aught to just have a chat with your gp, he,ll know best. Wish you luck anyhow?
Hi Underdog, its good that you've made that appointment, and try not to worry. The GP usually will talk to you first, and ask you how you feel you are. If you don't want to take meds then tell them. It maybe that you will benefit most from counselling therapy, and they can arrange that (though there might be a wait, but not always). Just talking things through with an 'outsider' could be all you'll need.
Use the on-line discussion forums. Who's to say that they won't offer you benefit. I know that coming on here has been a surprise for me. I feel I can now talk openly with people that understand how I feel, because they have been there! and that the benefit I have received in the past few days has been more down to being on here than from the meds I take.
Good luck and keep talking
It really depends on where you live and your individual doctor what treatment you get offered. I moved recently, and in the old place my doctor was an antidepressant fan, but my new one is less keen and recommends physical exercise above anything else. Neither offered therapy, and apparently here CBT is not even available yet. Maybe that's not much help, but if you don't like what your GP recommends, you can always ask to see another doctor for a second opinion.
