Thinning hair

Hello can someone please help , post menopause after total hysterectomy and am noticing horrible hair loss particularly at the front . Im seriously stressing out about this and becoming really conscious and unsettled , can anyone advise of vitamins or supplements that actually do work before I waste money on useless products that do nothing . Or any other advise please xx

Do they have you on hormone replacement?

Hi,I have this after having both ovaries outlast December. With me it is the trauma of the surgery and lack of estrogen so the Dr says. It kind of shocks the body. I'm on hrt but im waiting for blood results to get back so I can be put on a higher dose. Hopefully this will stop my hair thinning. If you look at most older ladies who are post menopausal you can see hair thinning. Apparently estrogen has a major role in keeping hair from thinning. Having surgery to remove ovaries stops estrogen production. I take a hair health vitamin supplement. I don't know if it's helped or not.Its really upsetting losing our hair. And there isn't much information about it.

I think you are right that it is the hormones, I am not sure if any supplements will help at this point.  It must be so frustrating to wait for lab results while you hair is falling out!  I always suggest bio-identical hormones vs synthetic...your body is probably having quite the time trying to assimilate them into your body.

I agree hair is so important to a woman.. Even nails too-- I just did the no-chip because I look down and see nice nails. Lifts me up..  But with my hair I was pulling out a 'rat' out of the drain every week.  I panicked and started to research.  Biotin doesn't seem to help me so I am trying bamboo.  Recently I saw a friend with amazing hair and she thought it was Spirulina that was helping her so I bought some of that too.  It's still too early to tell but I believe something is happening which is good because usually in August I tend to shed a lot too. I also looked at many videos about hair oil to get strong thick hair..  I'm trying that too!! LOL  I'm getting older and I need to do something!   I'm using carrots and avocados-- I know it sounds weird BUT I'm on it..  I would love to hair pretty hair!!

Hi, yes I can 'feel' that these hormones don't feel right for my body. I've always had high levels of natural estrogen, then to go to no estrogen then low levels of synthetic estrogen has battered me. I've got thyroid problems as well and the menopause has made them worse.🙄

Hi Foxy62,

One of the first things I think I noticed when my periods were winding down and when they quit was the hair loss. Noticed it mainly from having to clean the hair out of my brush more often. As a woman it is horrifying to see and feel our hair thinning. The bad news is those hormones that are being depleted and lost are playing a major role. I started going to a holistic dr. over 2 years ago, Three supplements I was put on right away were DIM, Alpha Lipoic Acid and Stinging Nettles. I think these helped tremendously with my hair loss but in saying that I started bio identical hormone replacement therapy after labs were taken. I can say, two years later, my hair is not falling out, its staying on my head where it belongs. There is many things I have benefited greatly from being on BHRT along with supplements to compliment them. Good luck, I know it is no fun for a woman to be losing her hair at any age.
