I had a THR of my right hip last Friday discharged Sunday PM. Feeling quite sore and lathargic and have a temperature of about 37.5c. No signs of problem with wound. Does anyone else remember having a raised temp in the early stages?
hi Alan,
welcome back, sweetheart ... wow, that was a short stay ... I stayed 4 nights/5 days, but maybe because I live alone -
yes, I definitely had raised temperature the first 3 days - my temp was taken twice a day and was more elevated in the afternoon than morning -
you have a wound and some swelling - lethargy also normal - it is major surgery, don't forget that - there will be soreness and discomfort, maybe some pain but not the same as the nasty pre-op pain for sure ---
not sure if you watched the surgery on youtube - not for the weak though - once I saw it, I had so much more respect for my body and the healing that needed to be done ...
What medications are you on?
take it easy today and maybe tomorrow - get out of bed and walk around the house, but nothing streneous - listen to your body and be gentle with your self -
big warm hug
renee
Thanks for that, I'm on Paracetamol & blood thinners and cocoldimol (I've steered clear of cocoldimol don't fancy the side effects) It's reassuring to get feeback to know what to expect. Thanks again Alan
Yes, my temperature was raised for a few days, first to about 37.5 and then peaking at just under 39. I was glad to be in hospital - indeed they kept me in longer than the normal 3-4 for this reason.
Mine took 3-4 days to be completely normal.
Thanks as my op was fairly straight forward they discharged me quite early and had a bit of a panic not knowing whats normal.
Thanks for that it helps
As I remember, my temperature was 1-2 degrees above normal for almost a week. I was told to phone my doctor if my temperature rose to 101 (38.33c). My temperature stayed at around 99.5 (37.5) during that time period. If you experience a spike, however, you should call the doctor. As for soreness and lethargy, they are to be expected this soon after surgery. It took me weeks, literally, to stop saying, "Why am I so tired?" I was exhausted all time. Your body needs lots of energy to heal. As said, it's major surgery. Rest, take pain meds as needed and you'll be surprised at how different you feel in the coming weeks.
Thanks Linda it's all been a bit of a bur from Friday to Monday this information is really helpful. What a great forum!
Hi Alan and welcome to the forum. As you will have seen already its full of lovely people offering help and advice and most importantly all in the same boat!
I had my first op in January and just had my second one last Wednesday so like you just a couple of nights in hospital. But it depends on how you are recovering and what support you have at home.
Even though its second time round for me and my husband is here to support me it is a little scary when you first get home as you worry about all sorts of things but you havent got the nurses on hand!
And that as Im sure youve already found is the great thing about this forum.
Wishing you a speedy recovery just remember to do your exercises, try not to overdo it and get plenty of rest.
😀

Welcome home Alan - onwards to a new life minus hip probelms. Re - temp - I think that a raised temp would be normal, but if it goes higher at the very least ring your doctor and see what they say. Instruction here in Australia, are pretty basic but very practical, rest rest and more rest. (you need it) No going out for 10 days, first trip out is to you GP to get your dressing taken down, and if necessary re-dressed, Doctor will make a decisiion on re-dressing. Other than that do your post surgery exercises, gently gently. Eat well, protein meals, you are healing muscles afterall, Yoghurt, some each day for probotics, yes I know not everybody likes Yoghurt, me included, like a Dr told me get over it, best advice I was ever given after major cancer surgery, and I now don't love yoghurt, but continue to eat ever since. exercies I was given and advice
