Glad for all of you in this forum my name is Sulaiman from Dubai I’m 33 y.
Wow, you can't imagine how I’m confident when I saw your experience in how to heal, rehabilitation.
My surgery booked on 12 July and I have some questions to get feedback from the professional hipy.
1-After 12 days of my surgery, I have mandatory training on 24 July and I must attend this training. Therefore, I’m thinking a lot about it, I can attend or not and what the recommendation, training 4 weeks and I have accommodation in the same institute.
2- If I’m using wheelchair during the training that helpful or not.
3- I’m from Dubai and feel free if you want anything from Dubai to contact me, thanks a lot my friends big hug.
I would say it depends on what the training is. (Desk or some physical work)The wheelchair will be a big help but i imagine uncomfortable to sit in all day. Dont forget you also have to have height adjusted for all your seating and toilet raiser. Will they do this for you? Also everything is very tiring the first few weeks. Hope I've highlighted a few things for you to think about.
I had a training day planned 2 weeks post op but decided not to do it. Although I was find at home, I didn't feel confident I could go all day sitting in one position. It's really tiring the early days and I moved between short walks, sitting and then lying with naps.
warm welcome to this friendly hippies forum and so happy that you found us -
you will find hippies from all over the world, in all stages of the hip journey : sitting on the fence, pre-surgery (like you), even in the hospital, and post surgery -
personal stories and experiences are shared and you can count on support and understanding like nowhere else -
What kind of approach will you be getting? Posterior or Anterior ?
12 days post-op this major surgery is early in recovery, however you might pull through when you had anterior apporoach and perhaps are allowed to walk around often -
I am not sure about the wheelchair - you might make this decision later -
I also would ask the surgeon or physical therapist for advice --
I would think you could manage 2 hrs a day. I thought it would have been all day training. As long as all goes well with operation it should be fine. That's only my opinion though. Ask your doctor to be on safe side.
Also Sul, did you say your in a dormitory? Before I came out of hospital the physio came to my house and checked height of my bed. To make sure it wasn't to high/low. It is difficult getting two legs on bed together first wks. See if you can get the information before your operation.
At Day twelve was able to get around in the house with a cane and went outside with a walker with wheels. I had posterior thr. I'm kind of a big guy in half way decent shape. One thing I can say is it was very difficult for me going to the bathroom after surgery with all the pain meds l had to work to go sometimes sitting for a good 15 min and having to wipe well that was not easy at first. Getting to the pain meds I took tramadol and meythacarbonal one for pain one for mussel. These made me very sleepy at times and had to nap. You will need to keep it elevated and iced. You should talk to the people putting on the training and find out if they can work with you. Maybe work you can do on your own time. It's a huge surgery and your body will tell you when you need to stop. Good luck my friend. Regards Red
i am 10 days post op. Think I could manage 2 hours desk training. However be prepared to have very poor concentration, several of us have discussed this in a post this week. If you use a wheelchair make sure the seat height is right. You might need a 5-10 cm high cushion on it.
I can walk 1/4 mile at the moment with two sticks. But need someone with me. Just in case! Also you are young so hopefully you will make an excellent recovery.
Hi.That is really soon for you to be attending a training but in this case a wheelchair with a pillow to sit on will help.Is it 8 hours each day?You might look at taking something like Ibuprofen 800 mg to help you with pain and keep your brain clear.also make sure your doing feet pumping.
Wow you are young to be having thr - I thought I was young at 41.
I think you may struggle with the training to honest. At day 12 hard work - you cannot do much for yourself at this stage - even putting your socks on and bending is hard work. Sitting on a normal seat and normal toilet seat is virtually impossible and painful too. Also if you are staying in accommodation- what sort of bed will you sleep in as it has to be of a certain height. You will also need to be doing exercises 3 times a day too
First of all, I would thanks all about your recommendations and experiences, It's helpful without you I could have the current situation again thanks a lot.
I did the surgery on 13 July I'm doing well till now
I was trying to walk without aided, I started to walk with limb before tow days
good to see you back here - it sounds as if you are doing really great - were you able to do the training?
As for walking wothout aids, I am not usre what to tell you - do you have physical tharapy and what do they say?eventhough you had your surgery July 13, it is not that long ago and your body is still healing from this major invasive surgery -
your body is also re-learning how to walk properly after, perhpas, a long time of compensationg for pain - hence, the limping, usually when getting tired - you are not in balance yet - the best would be to have someone (PT) teach you how to walk or find some videos on youtube - baby steps darling - unfortunately - and take cane with you -
let us know who you are getting on therwise ? Are you back at work yet?
