Tips for Day-to Day Living

Hi All. I thought it would be a good idea if we could exchange some ideas on how we deal with everyday living with our condition. Any simple ideas would be good. I'm going to start with three which were passed on to me and are really useful:

1. Buy a little spray bottle like the hairdressers use. Fill this with water and keep it in your bag when you're going out.  If you have to use apublic  bathroom without a washbaisin in the stall you can rinse yourself, so avoiding the burning that urine can cause. Essential when trail walking!

2.  We've all been told to buy boring white cotten knickers.  When these get old don't get rid of them, keep a pile of them in a bathroom drawer and use them to wask and dry down there -so much softer than regular towels!

3. Check the gusset seams of your underwear carefully - often it's more comfortable to wear them inside out. Ok, you'll look like a total idiot if you're knocked down by a bus, but who cares?

Anyone else got any good advice?

I found a pair of Indian-made elastic waist, wide-leg pantaloons at a posh consignment store for $12 – beautiful rayon print, so soft. I'd been living in them all summer. Then I found a cotton tab drape and copied them. So now I have two pairs. I like loose pants better than a long Indian dress, because there's fabric between my thighs to keep them from sticking with sweat on a hot day. I never spend a minute at home in my more fitted 'town' clothes.

i have found emu oil applied a few times a day has helped i keep some in my bag with some nappy liners if i am wearing knickers..  best to not wear as much as possible.  i am currently having accupuncture and taking lysine for my immune system.. i have cut out all sugar, dairy and wheat/yeast.  i have also been told that pure silk is better than cotton.  I actually find cotton irritates a little.

hope this helps

Do you keep your Emu Oil in the fridge at night? I know some people say it should always be refrigerated.....

I just bought aquafor ointment and coconut oil. Have a tiny forchette tear I am trying to heal. Tomorrow is my wedding anniversary but dont think its going to be completely healed by then. Any suggestions ?

Not to be a wet blanket, but maybe it's a good time to look at the thread about men and sex.

smile   I have a very understanding husband. I normally dont have problems with intercouse. Its very rare for me to get a tear. Im only 42 and we still have a good sex life. More frequent in the past year since his ED problems are better. Ive already told him we have to wait till it heals. Was just hoping it would of healed by now. I still fully enjoy sex so it gets frustrating when I get a bad flare that causes tearing.

I have made a special pouch with handle to carry with me to public facilities when camping or going a way.  In the pouch:  Spray bottle with water, pads, emu-oil/coconut oil/CMO for applying after each rinse and a small towel.

Since I have lost some weight, the summer pants are a little lower in the crotch and just perfect.  I too can't get used to skirts, for the same reason - too sticky with hot weather.

These are all great ideas Kate

i keep a little tub of Aqueous cream in the fridge and when the hot itch comes i wipe with this it is bliss to be cooled down

i also use Double base gel for washing my vagina on a baby soft sponge only twice daily morning and evening

i also wipe vagina with the double base gel after urinating

i dont wear any knickers at all ever not even the boring white cotton

i was also told not to use softener in my washing machine

i am not a spring chicken i am an old hen !

That's good to hear. I had the best years of my sex life in my mid forties. I think we sort of 'ripen' then. Lovely to have a good man at that time. You're being careful, which I didn't know to do in the absence of a diagnosis. I had sex so many times even though I had a not-so-small tear. If you avoid aggravating flares with sex and you use the medication correctly, there's no reason you should suffer the atrophy some of us have. I'm rooting for you!

That's so organised, I'm speechless with admiration!

By the way, I know a lot of people say that if you're buying jeans or shorts that men's ones are more comfy - they're cut a bit looser to allow room for the private parts!  I have a really comfy pair of cropped trousers which are really men's long shorts, and they've been much admired, I can even wear them to work.

I have found some baby wipes for newborn prem babies that are extremely "mild like water" (mentioned on the label)  in the supermarket with the Market Street, UK.  Don't seem to aggrevate me at all.  Tip, don't flush them down the loo though as they are not flushable.  I keep them with other bits and bobs for the job in a nice make up bag i.e Sanitary bags for disposing the wipes and pads, Moisturiser, tissues etc.
