Been a year since TKR(Zimmer knee replacement)...had months of pre and post-op physical therapy...I'm having pain behind knee,on top of knee area, and along sides of knee.Along one side I have 2 puffy areas( Dr has drained these several times giving me cortisone injections). My whole knee area has not yet begun to return to a normal looking knee.
Been to my Othopaepdist frequently throughout the year. Have tried using a "tens unit", icing knee area, cortisone shots, topical Pennsaid gel, topical Voltaren, Celebrex, and plain old aspirin.
Dr suggested taking BoswelliaAKBA supplement 500mg(recent study using this for pain and inflammation...study found it worked better than cortisone shots or any NSAID.
Anyone having problems like this after a yrs time?
Appreciate any input or suggestions...I am otherwise in good health.
Did nobody suggest Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)? or hyaluronic acid injections which might ease your pain. Look these up online.

Hi Debbie,
i have an appt with my ortho next month...he's been seeing me every 3 months...to no avail...I'm still swollen and have the same pains...He recommended I try a supplement called Boswallia AKBA along with my Celebrex. A study done here in the US found this supplement gave us stubborn healers relief...but to date, I don't notice any improvement. You might ask your Dr about this supplement.
i hope you soon get relief from your "ow ows".
let me know what your Dr comes up with.

Debbie,
Oops, I misspelled the supplement...it's Boswellia AKBA...the AKBA part is important that it have this....you don't want "regular" Boswellia.
Janet
thanks for that , ive just had my year appintment , they say the pain is all due to soft tishue and get back in touch if it goes worse .
Hi Janet
having had my left knee replaced two years ago and having a brilliant result and experience, I was very relaxed about going in and having the other one done a almost a year ago.
it has been a completely different experience this time. The pain on the side has never really gone away and the swelling. Also my right hip is painfull and I can't put weight on it to go up stairs/steps. It is definitely related to my knee.
Im having swelling in the outside of the knee and some pain. The other thing that's is happening is that it over extends and gives way sometimes.
ive been having another health problem so haven't dealt with it yet but it's getting worse so will let you know what they say.
I have to say though that I've never felt like the second knee was right, my foot turns slightly out when I walk which in turn will affect my hip??
