Has anyone experience in getting travel insurance while suffering from PMR?
I have recently been diagnosed with PMR and have family and friends in Australia and New Zealand that I want to continue visiting, but am concerned about getting adequate travel insurance.
Any advice or experience in this area would be helpful before I approach any insurance companies.
Having looked into this recently I believe if you check out the Post Office travel insurance you will find that they are the best with regard to ailments
and their Health Declaration is pretty broad and would not penalise you with PMR but of course please check out thoroughly in case I am wrong.

Dear Jayeeh
I have just taken out travel insurance with Thomas Cook (Axa) to travel to Hong Kong in November as my daughter lives there (I am 67). I have used them for the past three years as they have been very good in the sense there was no trouble being insured. The illnesses that do not have to be declared on their list includes rheumatism and PMR is a rheumatic illness - I presume it is as I am treated at the rheumatic clinic at Addenbrookes in Cambridge. This year I ran into trouble about my asthma. It is the first time they have been difficult so I presume they have come a cropper with a few people with late onset asthma (I was 61 when diagnosed). In the course of their questions PMR was mentioned but they weren't interested. PMR is most unpleasant for the sufferer but it is not life threatening and presumably will not cause large medical bills. So you shouldn't have trouble over PMR but don't take my word for it!
Good luck and happy travelling
Margaret
hello there I have a continuous travel policy with my bank acount and I phoned them when I was diagnosed with PMR and they sent me a letter confirming this was still covered but you do have to declare when you are put on prescription drugs We also had to do this for my husbands blood pressure and cholestral medication
Thank you everyone for those positive replies. Has given me the incentive I needed to start planning for our next visit down-under!
Just a thought - it will be fun timing when to take steroids through a 13 hour difference in time zone! We won't be going to NZ until next year, at the earliest, so time to ponder on that!!
