i received my bottle of Optrex yesterday....Having just used it
one day it's early for an opinion but here goes. I tried using the cup but most of that ran down my face. I decided it would be very wasteful. I'm taking two Q-tips, soaking them in the eyewash and applying very wet coating to the base of the lash.. One Q-tip per eye. My eyes certainly feel better and when I woke up this a.m. I had a lot less crust at the base of my lashes. Soooo I'm hopeful that this will work for me.
Anyone know the strength of the Benzathonium in the Optrex?
It's not listed on the carton and I'm hopeful that it is strong
enough to kill the staph.....
Your cleaning with the Q-tips is makiing the most difference in getting rid of debris and reducing the bacterial load.
Be aware that Optex is more designed to get rid of foreign bodies, dust and smoke from the eyes. It is not designed for blepharitis. The concentration of Benzalkonium will be very low around 0.1mg / ml. Purely intended to kill bateria that get inside the bottle and are in contact with solution for hours.
Hi, I don't know if you read my earlier posts but I also use the Optrex. I don't rinse my eyes with it - I use a tiny spot in the bottom of a clean cup. Dip the cotton buds/Q tips in to that and use two - scrape around the bottom lash edge from outside to in on each eye, then the top with the other two ends - one for each eye. I've been doing this for a while now and it definitely keeps the bleph at bay. I do it twice a day, sometimes only once. If my eyes itch, I then step it up and may do it again to ease the itch.
I've no idea how much Benzathonium is in the Optrex, sorry.
Hi faye i doubt that it would kill Bleph , it's a product to sooth the eyes and hopefully wash out any grit , the main additive being witchhazel . The new softer plastice eye bath is better than the old rigid plastic one and you need to "wear it like a monacle " to get a good fit . Alternatively fill to the little marker and instead of tipping the head back and rocking it to free grit , simply lower your head to meet the eyebath ( hold eyebath on table ) and immerse your eye into it . Slowly move your eyeball around for about a minute . I pre warm the eyebath with pre boiled water so that when the optrex goes into the eyebath it takes the chill off it .
It's for soothing and washing out grit really .
faye , DEFINATELY NO BENZ' in the Optrex , what's in there is Witch Hazel grown on their farm not far from me .
i feel I'm getting somewhere with mine of late . With eyes closed and head bowed I've been using a bud tip( using Blethasol liquid ) to soak and "scrub" the lashes and then sitting back and leaving it to dry . It takes quite a while to dry but the last 3 days have been so much better . I'm doing this twice a day . I have some drops on hand in case the liquid does get in my eyes and sting . Early days but I feel that i'm now getting to the stage where i feel that i've got it under control .
I'd never thought of the optrex on a cotton wool bud tip ! soothing and keeps some moisture " in the air " .
Where are you at with yours ?
Benz is listed as an ingredient on the box....doesn't say how
stronge but surely some in the Optrex. My eyes do feel
better and not as much crust on the upper lid when I wake up.
I've got two large bottles of the Optrex so will really give it
a try. Maybe go back to wet ones a couple of times a day
and see what happens.
Probably a tiny amount but it has to be listed . Probably you've broken the breeding cycle of the bugs by making their living conditions none to pleasant for them . That's what I'm hoping for in my case . A great day with my eyes today so far .
