Hi Y'all, I'm interested if any of you have taken turmeric. I heard of it (can't remember where), and that it might help with joint pain. I ordered a turmeric/ginger mix, and just received it today. I've only taken one tablet-150mg thus far. supposed to take 3 p/da. I figure I can use all the help I can get right now!! I'd love to hear any feedback any of you may have. thx!
You should check that there are no contraindications for you or interactions with any medications you are taking. Anything which is genuinely effective must be altering something in the body and may or may not be right for you. Just because it is used in lesser quantities in food doesn’t mean a therapeutic dose is harmless.
If you take it your supplement should include piperine, from pepper, or it will not be sufficiently bioavailable.
hi Anhaga, I just checked the ingredients, and there’s something called bioperine in it. is this what you meant?
you are right. I always tend to think, if you can get it over the counter, it must be safe…not necessarily the case, even if it is only a supplement!
it DOES say that it is a good anti-inflammatory, but who knows?
I’m just grasping at straws trying to make myself healthy again😢.

I’m treating for PMR 12.5mg pred right now.
I had trouble getting it to do any good when starting out with 15mg until I started eating right.
My Dr. recommended Omega 3 Fish Oil, and Turmeric and I take them with no problems.

btw, I’m (once again) tapering…just started 7.5mg today.
I have PMR friends who used turmeric and ginger in cooking and were sure it helped - in that if they used less over a few days they felt less well. Some people find the supplements too much and get upset stomachs - but this seems to happen less when using it in cooking.
But as Anhaga says, you must check any supplement against any medication of other supplements you are taking to be sure they don’t interfere with each other in any way.

I find fresh ginger and powdered turmeric better and can be used in cooking. I even put turmeric in scrambled eggs! You can make drinks out of ginger and turmeric too.

I also use whole ground flaxseed in my cerials and yogurt.
I was eating all wrong too. If you haven’t, Google PMR diet.
Taking powdered turmeric is much less potent than supplements which can cause problems if taken to excess, particularly if you are taking anti coagulants for example. It is also said it can affect diabetes, although I am sure a lot more research is needed. It is worth checking with your pharmacist if you are taking any other medication to ensure that there are no problems.
