Un-cemented hip weirdness

Just wondering if anyone else is having some leg weirdness after an un-cemented THR.

I have odd aches and pains in knees and ankles (expected, as I was walking like an arthritic chimp for so long) and have the twang of nerves coming back to life around the scar. The weirdness is from mid thigh. About once a day I get a feeling like my phone is vibrating in my leg at about the position where the stem must end in my femur.

I read somewhere about micro-motion - is this what it is. Totally strange.

HI  the micro-motion you refer to is usually discovered by pain rather than vibration.

I suspect you are feelingthe nerves that run down the leg waking up after injury which happens at appx 2mm per month. I had the pain and had to have a revision as the pain is sufficient to stop walking. Keep those fingers crossed!

Did not get exactly what you describe but some wired tingling. Put it down to the nerves waking up after an injury or the bone beginning to grow through the porous bits in the I cemented implant and making it part of your body

Hi Kate, hope what I have to say is helpful.. I am not 6 mos out and from time to time experience both left knee and ankle wierdness. Had a RHR. Sometimes, the ankle feels weak, sometimes the knee hurts, too. I go to a physical therapist for other issues and asked her about this and she said it is not unusual since the other side took such a hit from having to put all the weight on the other side in order to walk at all. It does make sense, too, what others are saying regarding nerve regeneration and building strength in the ligaments and muscles. Not sure if you have done anything strenous just lately. From time to time, I do take a muscle relaxant, Arcoxia, that helps especially when I feel a heavy sensation in the pelvis that affects the nerves. Overall, everything is pretty much normal and without too many setbacks or symptoms. Guess to suggest to see your doctor or PT to discuss what you are experiencing to be sure all is well.. God bless you and your family, Susan

Eeeek, hope it's not micro motion then byteme. I suspect, because I am um, impatient, that I have pushed a little too much sometimes. I get excited when I seem to have made an improvment. I get a pain there but it drifts off again the same as it does in my ankle or knee. I think everything is re-aligning as I was walking like a chimp before the op and my right leg was 2cm shorter than my left. It is good to stand upright after nearly a year.

I will try to slow down a bit I think, I am too scared of having revisions or dislocations!

It will be what it will be. Revisions are not caused by the individual for these sorts of things. Just be positive and I suspect it will just fade in a few weeks. The pain I experienced was massive (couldnt walk 100 yds) so do not panic. And if you need a revision, whilst never ideal, do not accept disability in its place
