Ok all saw the pain specialist and he gave me oxycodone with act in it i take 6 a day im kinda scared because i heard taking pain killers can damage ur liver or ur health should i just stop taking them or keep taki g them till i have my hip revision surgery which could be mo ths from now pls help

Hello Nicole,

I found exercise far more effective than pain killers. I know this sounds strange but if you could use an elliptical walker or stationary bike it will really help to build muscle which in turn stops pain being so bad. I only took the occasional paracetamol prior to op and nothing since.

ive been taki g oxycodone foe 7 months since mt ThR. i have pain and numbness still in my groin area. the professionsls tell me various reasons for it: muscles tendons and nerves healing ffom tve trauma of my fall or ftom the surgery. i also take tramadol. at first i too was worried sbout the effects of taking such strong painkillers. in particular i was worried about becoming addicted.
ive since come to accept that until my pain goes away im going to need these medications to help me function in my daily life. best wishes to you xx

The pain specialist will be aware of all possible side effects of the medication he/she has prescribed. Things taken into consideration will have been your general health apart from your obvious hip problem. Liver function can be monitered by blood tests as can renal function and other biomarkers which can be used as indicators of any side effects of relatively long term medication. You need to be aware of your body and any changes so you can discuss with the specialist.
If the medication is successful in controling your pain you may be able to move about a lot more and build up muscle which, as has been said, can only help both pre and post op.

All the best

Taking any drug is never that good as they all have side effects. It is a matter of weighing up the benefits against the pain you have with no drugs.

I agree with maggie93798.
I think the thing is they CAN have side effects, it doesn’t mean that you will experience them.
Best wishes
