Urine test for herpes??

Last week I went to the doctor and had a visual confirmation that what I had could be herpes. There were no open sores (they had popped already) so she had me take a urine test. I haven’t been able to find any information on urine tests for herpes though, and how accurate they are.

I’ve been having a lot of pain/difficulty peeing and have read this is likely because of lesions in the urinary tract, perhaps that’s why she ordered it? Thanks for any info you guys can give.

You can do a urine test for herpes, it is offered in some countries. It can pick up herpes from the virus shedding into the urine.
During my initally diagnosis i did multiple tests and a urine test was one of them which also came back positive.

Thanks, and does the urine test report HSV1 vs HSV2?

Yeah it is a PCR test. My result came back hsv2.
