Vaginal opening... not open

Hi everyone, first time poster. I'm 24 and not sexually active (virgin), and while looking in the mirror i have noticed my vaginal opening appears to be only opened halfway... the rest is fused shut. The opening is also not straight the whole way... when it gets to the area that is fused, the opening moves over to the side and down as if it were ripped open somehow (rare tampon use years ago i remember being unable to take it out as it was too dry and felt as if it were trapped under a shelf of some sort... felt quite a bit of pain on finally removing it, assumed it was a hymen, but could be this???) I'd be incredibly embarrassed asking a Dr in person, so would like some guidance here as to whether its a problem and i need to see someone, and whether this is something heard of / common

Hi, based on your description, and having in mind that that you are a virgin - there doesn’t seem to be anything strange.

i had the same thing it is your hymen when you get your first period basically is when it first opens or rips but, when you lose your virginity it will open all the way. i went to the doctor for it when i was 17 because tampon use was extremely painful. no need to panic i promise!

Thank you for your comforting answer!
I was under the impression though that the hymen is a membrane just INSIDE the vagina, or stretching ACROSS it, not the actual opening itself being fused? Have i understood that wrong?

Thank you. So upon loosing my virginity, the penetration will tear it open? Seems like it would be oh so very painful, and not what i thought the hymen (assuming this is what you’re assuming it is?) would look like..

Yes, that’s correct, it will tear it open, and it might be painful.

I would go see a doctor. They have heard all kinds of questions, so there’s nothing to be embarrassed about, I promise. That way, when you do decided to have sex, you will not be worrying in the back of your mind if there’s an issue down there.

It may just be your hymen. Is all penetration painful?
