VENLAFAXINE

I have been on Venlafaxine now for 2 weeks and I feel worse. I took them for 10 years without any side effects. Unfortunately 2 years ago they stopped working. Whenever I went back on them I felt great. But this time I feel awful.

Is there anyone who could let me know how long they had to take them before they felt better?

Hi Patricia I started off on 75mg for two weeks and I felt no different but the doctor upped it to 150mg and within 3-4 weeks I started to feel a little better but it did take a few months before I started to feel like me again, I was off work for about 4 months unfortunately when I felt well enough to return my employers decided I wasn't and made me wait another 3 months wanting assurity from my doctors that I was well enough for work and that I would not be ill again how on earth can a doctor tell if I would be ill again with depression so I had to leave and believe or not I was off with work related stress in the first place. Give it a few weeks and if you don't feel any better go back and have a chat with your doctor

good luck

I would expect you to see somewhat of a difference. What dose are you on?  If it is 37.5 I would go back to the dr. And see what he/she thinks.

Hi Judy I am on 75 mg.

Hi Sue

Many thanks for replying.  What an awful time you have had.  I thinkl you are better off from that employee.  I have been prescribed 150 mg twice in the past but I felt worse on it.  Mind you I may not have gtiven it long enough.  My GP said I should give the 75 mg a month and then she will see about upping it.  It's Ok for the GP but to feel like hell for a month is murder.  I have also been prescribed Mirtazapine 15 mg 30 mg and 45 mg so that took about 3 months as well.

Sorry Patricia I did not read fully.  How long did the dr. Think it should take?  If you don't feel any improvement at all in a few days I would go back and discuss it with the dr.  For myself I was on 225 mg and it quit working in Janaury.  It has been a rough road so far as wellbutrin seemed to work as long as I was on 150 mg of effexor but when I tapered down it became apparent the wellbutrin was causing major anxiety. I am now off the wellbutrin and am 112.5mg of effexor plus 10mg of cipralex and I'm still not a hundred percent.  I go back to the dr. Tomorrow.

Hi Patricia I was on 75 mg for 2 weeks and a week and a half ago upped to 150 I'm starting to feel better now, side Effects starting where horrible esp from upping .. Xx

Hi Judy

The doctor we should giive it a month.  I am so tired duriing the day that most days I go back to bed.  I never had any side effects when I took this drug for 10 years and then again last year for 5 months.  Thank goodness I feel great at night. V ery strange.

Pat

Are you taking the meds at night or in the morning?  I always had to take it at night as it knocks me out.  Is the tiredness the main issue or is the depression not improving?

Hi Judy

I think I was feeling a bit better today not the usual awful feeling in my stomach.  It's the tiredness as I just can't be bothered doing anything which just isn't me.

I have been taking them at night but stupid me decided to take it this morning which of course was on top of the one I took last night. I keep waking up around 3.00 am  so I thought it might help to take it in the morning but never again!

I am also going back on venlafaxine I am also on 45mg mirtazapine and my doctor added olanzapine for anxiety. The anxiety seems worse now! I've written on the depression page as well.

Hi Kat

I would go back to your Dr.  The increased anxiety could be a reaction ot mirtazapine the olanzapine should be calming things down.  It could be the meds are just not the right mix for you.
