Very sensitive skin

Hi all. I am now 5 months post left THR and I have started experiencing very sensitive skin in my back and legs, also on my face. The doctor is sending me for an MRI to see if I have sciatica or disc problems. I am just wondering if this could be all connected with my hip replacement and has anyone else experienced this kind of thing?

Hi Julie.

i can say that Imexperienced sensitive skin in so many different areas.,sore and dry skin is a big issue. I used a lot of Vaseline.

Imthinkmthat sciatica is a disc bulfging in the back pressing on the nerve that runs down the leg. That I have had and It is miserable. I hope you can get it sorted out soon and in the road to recovery.

Peace & Healing sent your way!

Hi hope. Thanks for the reply. I was thinking it could be fibromyalgia. I have read up that trauma or operations can trigger it off. I do hope I get it sorted out soon

Julie. Xxx

I hope you get it sorted soon too. Have you seen a rhumeyologist for FM .

i have FM and the symptoms are so complicated a good rhumey can help you with diagnosis and blood tests can also answer inflammation issues if skin is inflamed or tissue and other areas. Sometimes I have flares especially in cold winters. Spring is here and soon thing will warm up.

Take anti inlpflammatorues and Tylenol is my routine mixed with lite exercise walking mostly right now. I Need to get back into water therapy this summer. That really helps sore muscles and tendons and arthritis issues as well as FM.

hope you feel better soon.

Sometimes skin problems are a side-effect of a medication, or an allergy to a med. I doubt if sensitive skin post-THR could be directly related to the THR surgery. For skin irritation, I would always first suspect medication as the cause.

I remembered too that I had a very bad reaction to the pain meds used for THR revision. I itched so bad it was a balancing act between the sore itching skin and pain. It took a few weeks to calm down. Even antihistimes didn't work by pill or cream application. I just wanted to unzip my skin like a alien in the men in black movies.

I had so many allergies to tapes and the urinary catheter used as well as the self stick adhesive used to hold the draping in place. My skin was raw.

All my allergies we listed for Op . As much as I begged the surgeon to not use opiates as I have developed antibodies and highly allergic due to so many surgeries.

That may be some of the sore skin issues in your case. The first THR replacement opiates didn't bother me at all . My doctor explained how our bodies build antibodies & have same issues with antibiotics and other meds.

You can have blood tests that show if you have developed antibodies for any meds you were taking. Ask you doc for more info.

Hi Julie,

Interesting ... What medication are you still taking?

Sensitive skin of leg and back I can understand - Can be due to some swelling of muscles  or still healing soft tissue etc.But face is different ...

But I am not a medical professional ...

Please let us know the outcome of your MRI ?

a gentle big warm hug
