Vision

Anybody ever have vision problems pop up after years of taking celexa?

When I last took citalopram for five years I started getting what looked liked shadows floating across my pupils. I went to see an optician but he said it’s something that we can get when we get over tired especially as we get older, I was in my thirties at the time. They come and go even after the stopping the citalopram but I don’t always realise they’re there.

Hi tyler, I have noticed changes to vision, with light sensitivity, floaters and vision problems. These could also be due to age and migraines. From last october to December I tapered from 30mg of cita to 20mg. Within days of being on 20mg my light sensitivity completely disappeared. So I now know for sure it was cita that caused that. My floaters come and go now, have definitely seen an improvement. My vision has deteriated and keep meaning to see an optician. What problems are you experiencing?

Thank you Paula. My problems are blurriness, spots, floaters, dull vision, kind of faded and dark vision. If I'm looking at something white or light colored I see like sparkles everywhere. The weirdest thing is how much this fluctuates. One day my vision is close to perfect the next it's absolutely horrible. I've seen so many specialists and nobody knows what is causing this. The only idea any doctors have told me is it's anxiety/stress related. I doubt it.

If your still taking celexa ? Is the celexa causing you these side effects..

Like Paula says a lower dose can reduce your vision problems that's for sure...

I'm not sure if celexa is causing this or not. I was wondering if anybody has experienced this from celexa

I have ..but it subsided

Do you get flashes of light? I got them too, and since reducing cita, i have gone from getting them daily to hardly ever.

When I say cita, I mean celexa

How long have you been on Celexa, and at what dosage? Have you had a recent increase or decrease of dosages (recent as within the last few months)?

I was on 40 mgs. of Citalopram for 5 years before switching meds today. I personally have not had any vision issues.

I'm on 40 mg and have been for 7 Years. No flashes just the vision stuff I listed. This started a year ago.

Flashes =sparkles...I say is the celexa.. causing your eye problems ..is like snow vision.. sometimes looks like when old fashioned television sets would look grainy after the broadcasting station went off the air

Maybe discuss with your doctor a possible switch to a different SSRI (not fun, I know). At least, that way you can determine if it's from the Citlopram, or something else.

OMG yes! Exactly. I'm gonna try cutting back to 20 mg. How long do you think it will take before I see an improvement??

Isay a week or two..

But do it gradually..don't jump big milligrams..you will get discontinuation symptoms..

Okay, thank you

I had an improvement within a week, couldnt believe it. Let us know how you get on. All the best to you.

Actually Tyler, i tapered too quickly thats why, please dont taper too quickly can be hell, it was in my case, never again.
