Hi everyone, I’m Jonny (24 years old)Around 6 weeks ago, the day after my sister’s wedding, I suddenly started feeling really tired and achy. I was also struggling with acid reflux and had my first-ever panic attack, which really scared me.I went to the doctor and my GP ordered blood tests. Everything came back normal except my vitamin D level, which was very low at 26 nmol/L. I was surprised because I get out most days walking my dog (and sometimes my uncle’s dog too), so I wasn’t expecting it to be that low.I was prescribed 20,000 IU of vitamin D twice a week. I’m now just over a month into treatment (4 weeks done, 3 weeks left to go), but I honestly don’t feel any better — if anything, some symptoms feel worse.Current symptoms:
-
Trouble falling asleep and staying asleep
-
Strong aching all over, especially in my upper back, arms, and neck
-
Random feelings of panic or like I’m about to pass out (these get worse in the car when someone else is driving, or in the shower)
-
Constant feeling of a lump in my throat (I can swallow and eat fine, it’s just a sensation)
-
Feeling unsteady on my feet / lightheaded with a strange “waddling” sensation when walking
-
Worse acid reflux than usual (even without obvious trigger foods)
-
Excessive drooling, especially at night — I keep waking up with drool on my pillow
-
When I need to pee, I can’t hold it as well as normal. I don’t need to go more frequently, but when the urge hits, I really need to go urgently
My doctor says the panic feelings and other symptoms are likely a combination of the vitamin D deficiency and GAD (Generalised Anxiety Disorder). While I’m trying to accept that, I can’t shake the feeling that something else might be going on.Has anyone else been through low vitamin D with symptoms like these? Did you feel worse before you felt better? How long did it take for you to notice improvement? Any advice or similar experiences would be really appreciated — I’m finding this quite tough at the moment.Thank you so much,
Jonny
