Hi all, just wondering if anyone has managed to lose weight with fibro and on meds. I'm thinking about trying low-carb. x
Good luck with that, all I can do is put it on.
I don't know if i can help because I went off meds for a more natural approach. But I did the gaps diet. Off dairy, sugar, caffeine, and gluten. I lost 40 lbs in 4 months.it also helped reduce my flares and I was feeling much better than I did in a long time. However, after getting I'll recently, I am having issues with my thyroid and have gained it back. If you do Atkins which is low carb it also works. I have had low sugar, hypoglycemic, for 20 years and it helped me maintain a healthy blood glucose and after my weight dropped helped me maintain it. But you need to make sure you eat every few hours. And watch out for gluten free products. While they may not have gluten they are high in carbs and sugars. Good luck.
Thanks Kiki xx
Hi Jeanne,
I posted on here somewhere about gaining 3 stones with meds and inactivity. My cholesterol went to 6.4 and I also ended up with non SLC fatty disease. I've since lost that 3 stones cholesterol still remains the same but my liver is starting to return to normal. I did the alternate day diet, one day I only eat 500 Cal's next day I eat normal staying around the 1800 Cal's. It was extremely hard to begin with but pays off in the end. Got fed up with GP telling me I had to exercise more everyday, ya right I said you try feeling like me for a day and doing it
Also then the next day I would have a flare up with fibro and ME lasting for days or weeks
Hope this helps. Oh and drink loadsa water
🌸 X
Hi Ya
I take meds
I do the sirt food diet and have lost around a stone and health wise I'm feeling better than I have in ages
I still have aches, pains or stiffness daily but doesn't seem as bad as it has been in the past
Hope this helps
Well done Mandy. I have put so much weight on that it can't be helping however I am with a specialist physio who is putting me on very limired excersise.
This is great however am stfugglingbtk maintain a full time job which requires a level,of daily activity. I try to explain to those involved that the related pain following exersise is not proportionate to the excersise undertaken.
The worry about the pain Dan outweigh the benefits but I do keep trying.
I am 55 year old male. My doctor dies not prescribe or diagnose Fibro referring to my problems as non specific chronic pain. I am about to ask for a referral to rhuematology as requested bythe Oct health officer.
Good luck to everyone in whatever category you are in.
Hi Sarah, what's the sirt food diet? Haven't heard of that one. x
i know, they've no idea have they? I do try to swim (it was once a week) but haven't been for various reasons since last September, and definitely can't walk far, much as I miss going for walks. Thanks for your reply Mandy x
If I'm honest it's hard to explain
You have a sirt juice everyday and eat lots of kale, celery. Chillies, tumeric and beans (kidney and butter beans)
You may want to google it
I followed the book the sirt food diet by Aidan Goggins and Glen Matten
It says on the front of the book loose 7lb in 7 days
I lost 9lb in 7 days
I then done the detox week again after Christmas and lost the 7lb in 7 days
After the first week I loose between 2-3lb a week
Also I have never felt hungry between meals
Wow! I was unaware of that diet. I will talk it over with my GP. I don't know if i can do it because of the kale. Who knew that eating kale and spinach would screw up my thyroid. Ugh!
Thanks Sarah, don't think that's for me! x
Yes yes yes....high fat..low carbs is excellent...soo good for you too..I could talk about it all day..but you must really look it up yourself..it's really more a lifestyle, you stay on it..,I'm on Paleo, Check it out on Google..great for autoimmune conditions too..quite amazing when you look at the research..one very interesting fact I never knew was that fat cannot make you fat...yay..What you can eat is amazing...what you can't eat which just passes away..you don't miss it..there's too much yummy food instead..NO processed food, no pasta, rice, I eat some potato..definitely you can eat anything dairy..cheese, Cream milk etc..only if you don't have problems with dairy of course..no wheat bread..plenty if substitutes..I bought a bread maker that makes gluten free bread as it's quite expensive...I gave up sugar too..it's in everything you buy that's processed...I have heaps and heaps of recipes too, it's such yummy food...it's unreal, what you can substitute..I've been like this for about 5 years now..luv it..ok if your out and eat something you shouldn't too..you may feel it but it's not going to kill you...be blessed jeannie, have a lovely day..😘😘😘🙏 hope all goes well for you..I never looked back..
Ooops..forgot..saturated fat doesn't cause collesterol....I had mine checked before and after my first year..it lowered it..mind you it wasn't high to start with..it's just that in my lifetime it's been scorned on forever not to eat cheese and butter anything with saturated fat..so I was very sceptical ...but it was great..and has been for years now..👍😍
Hi Christine! I haven't seen you on here for a while, but wondered if you would reply to my post as I remember you extolling the virtues of Paleo a couple of years ago. I'm already researching it and liking what I see! Thanks for your input. If you wanted to pm me with any of your favourite recipes I would love it! Lol Sleep well my friend. xx😴
Hiya Jeannie...yes! Im just very busy right now just want to acknownowledge, that I am going to contact you...but I will definitely message you when I have a minute..luv Paleo lifestyle...not only good for your health especially the AIP Autoimmune Eating, but the weight loss or gain whichever your needs are are really good too...chat late😍😍😘
Thanks Christine xx😊😊
Hi everyone, I've never posted before so a little unsure of how this all works. I finally got diagnosed 5 months ago after 3/4 years of pain. I'm on so much medication and I keep gaining weight, I weigh myself every week and it's really creeping up. I'm 4ft 11 and I now weigh over 14 stone on one of my many visits to my doctor he has put me on weight lose pills and I'm still gaining weight. I'm feeling really low at the moment and I feel that there is no where to go. Please any advice would be great. Thanks for reading my rant.
Hi Tracey, bless you! Firstly I would suggest you go back to your doctor and ask him to do a medications review. It may be that you really don't need all the meds you have been put on. Secondly, have a review of your diet, and see if there are any changes you can make. Are you able to do any exercise at all? If you can't walk very far, swimming is a great exercise for us fibromites. We all have our low times, but try to focus on the positive things in your life. Hope this helps. xx
Hi, thank you so much for replying even with a house full of people sometimes I feel so alone. I see my doctor quite a lot so we can sort out the meds that I'm on, he's tried changing my painkillers but soon had to switch me back. I'm truly blessed with four beautiful children and I'm going to be a nan for the first time in April, and she is why I want to be the best that I can be. I feel like I diet all the time and never get anywhere. My 18 year old suggested a food diary which I've been doing in hope that I can see where I'm going wrong. Again thanks for replying just needed to talk to someone who gets what it's like to be restricted.x
