Weak bladder following surgery

Hi everyone. I had a left thr on 6 May. I had spinal block with no sedation.

Pain from surgery has been less than I expected, with the major discomfort from a sore backside from sitting and painful heels from laying on my back (a padded fleecey blanket I got in Dunelm is helping heels).

What is becoming a major problem is a weak bladder!  If I could run even this would be a problem. I'm wondering if this is a coincidence, or somehow related to surgery?

Many thanks.

Hello,

I decided it was the blood thinners that were to blame in the end. Whatever the cause when I had my first hip done (Jan) it made me very miserable. So much so that for the second hip (11th May) I decided to get myself a 'female urinal'. They are very cheap and it's made my life a whole lot better!

Best of luck with your recovery!

Thank you so much. That does make so much sense.

I have to say that I'm getting quite anxious about it.

You've had your second hip done so quickly. I wish you a very speedy recovery.

My issues have been so unexpected, and so far, thankfully, not relating to the surgery.

I'm now awake as my heels are so painful with lying on my back. I'm hoping they will toughen up!

thank you

No problem, trust me the bladder thing goes away before you know it ☺ But so you know you're not alone, I'm awake now writing this after my 5th trip tonight 😉

Hi Oh2behappy.

It will be either the blood thinners or pain meds you have been given to take.

I have found that I am going more frequently since being on the pain meds. I know a lot of others who had their hips / knees done at the same time as me are the same. I have my porta loo only a few steps away from my bed at night because of this. Once you have finished taking your meds it should pass. if it doesn't do exercises to strengthen your pelvic floor muscles.

Poor you. I've only been three times! Hahaha

I've ordered stuff online to make me feel a more comfortable for now. Only 19 injections left to take...

The things you don't think about. I even have padded gloves for the crutches, on the advise of my youngest.

I hope you're doing well

Good morning --- OMG, yes, nobody tells you about that .... Same here - I live alone and was worried about the getting in and out of bed, going to the bathroom and hoping I made it in time .... well, a couple of times I didn't ... in addition to this I had an UTI 2 days after I was discharged .... I am 9 weeks post op today and can tell you that it will get better - 2-3 times tops .... Fragmin injections for 6 weeks so that is done , I am happy to say ... as for the sore heels? there are special sheep skin pads to prevent and relief the soreness. How are you doing during the day ?  Take care - big hug, it will be alright ...

Hi

I've been doing the pelvic floor exercises. Definitely getting worse over the weekend. If I had room for a commode, I think I'd have one. I'm not sure I'd have any volunteers to sort it 😒

Thank you very much.

Thank you renee

I feel okay in myself, thank you, other than worn out as I can't sleep because of heels - I got a fleece thing on Saturday which helps for a while - and the aching backside when sitting makes snoozing difficult.

I need a second hip, so I'm making a list of things that might make things easier, and to remind me about things like this so

I can stock up on tenna ladies. I've done an online order for some!

I hope you're doing well

Hi oh2bhappy I had a problem with sore heels bought some bed socks from Primark (£2) for 2pairs and hubby put heel balm on my heels problem solved !

Morning,

thanks for raising this subject, although I have avoided any mishaps, I was beginning to wonder why after taking my blood thinner needs just after tea time that my bladder felt constantly full - now I know why!

I too had the side heels but now put s pillow length ways under my knees, this supports my back and helps me sleep but also has rid me of the horrible painful heels, I can recommend.

Take care

Thank you Ruth. I shall get some bed socks. Was it a particular heel balm?

I'm very grateful.

hmmmm ... I wonder if taking the blood thinners in the morning would help the interrupted nights ???? Never thought of this my self though ....

I really did get so anxious yesterday I was wondering if it was epidural related.

I did have a pillow but found It took too long for me to get out of bed to the loo...

Thank you very much.

The heel balm is called Flexitol good stuff

Didn't have any bladder trouble, but with regard to sore heels, hubby soaked my feet in Dead Sea salts (from Holland and Barrett) to soften them and  then he rubbed foot softening lotion in them and put my soft socks on at bedtime.  Hey presto, success!  Hope your other problems soon start easing up.

I concede that the pillow may have hampered a 'quick' getaway .... We all find the best method for ourselves in the end .... Have a good day.

Thank you.

I might try that :-)

Thank you Barbara. For some reason I can't reply to your post.

I need to get some soft socks...
