I am 11 months post op. Last year around 8 weeks post op I went to my sister and brother in laws golden wedding, I bought a lovely dress and matched it with a pair of sandals with velcro fastenings across the foot and at the ankle. They were lovely as when my feet swelled I could loosen them. They wern't expensive as I was of the mind I could chuck em away afterwards. They were from shoe zone and I wore them all last summer. The most comfortable pair of sandals I've ever had. Although I am now healed I am going back to see what they have this year for my holidays.
Well, you just changed my mind about one of the things I was considering ☺ I currently have to wear a slight wedge heel for the most part since my bad hips sometimes place a strain on my Achilles tendon. My sweet Mom blessed me with her narrow heels so they aren't as stable as they might be. I have several pairs of cute flats that I was thinking of passing on to someone else. Now I think I will just put them away for myself. Surgery is not until December of this year but I found this group in hopes of getting prepared both physically and mentally. Thanks for the tips.
Fern lovely - I would definitely be planning my outfit before the operation, for a good few weeks after you really won't feel like thinking about it, and even then, actually getting around to go shopping might be a step to far (no pun intended!) Trying things on etc...all too much of a flaff in the early days. I have had lots of nights out - and have worked out my limits, so hope to share them with you...
Firstly you will not be doing very much exercise so I would go for a size bigger or something with a little room just in case.
Maxi dress will be perfect just in case you have a little swelling on your leg, or a maxi skirt with a beautiful top - together with either gladiator sandals style flat or with a slight wedge.
A summer dress of any kind would work with a beautiful matching pashmina
KITTEN heels worked wonders for me and I could wear them from week four/five for short stretches and for the whole day by week seven....they always look elegant without being difficult to walk in.
Book a blow dry, if you are hair looks a million dollars you will feel great in most things. Book a manicure and even some eye lashes, all will make you feel lovely.
Co-ordinate your bag and a hat if you wear one, and you are good to go.
Do not attempt trousers of any kind of pencil skirts, or anything tight. It sometimes take a while for the swelling to be completely gone, and you won't want anything tight around your incision site.
By week seven you will just be feeling ready for this, and a glass of bubbles and a special occasion to look forward to will be ideal.
If you want to completely blow the budget (and why not you deserve it) Chloe this summer have the most dreamy pair of gladiator style sandals (in grey, natural, peach and black) to die for if you would like comfort and show stopping gorgeousness. You can wear them all summer with everything!
I know just how hard that is - I lost 5 stone (70 pounds) before my Op.
Well done for tackling it, the sheer effort of it all changes the way you view food in the future, and hopefully you will be like me, my stomach has shrunk, and I cannot now eat as much anyway. A bit like stomach stapling, but in a much more natural way.
Hi Fernlady I'm 6 weeks post op and although I have had a good recovery I would not feel confident to wear heels. This is 1 of my many questions I have for my surgeon who I see on Wednesday. I think it's a fear of falling or tripping that worries me. I know longer have swelling but find sitting for long periods of time can be uncomfortable so a cushion might be useful.
I can walk unaided but I take 1 stick with me if I'm going to crowded places as I find people are less likely to barge into you if you use a walking aid. I have been shopping for around 3 weeks now so hopefully that won't be a problem for you.
It's always good to be organised though as it's 1 less thing to worry about. Online shopping is ideal as you can order more than 1 size and usually easy to return. Hope everything goes well for you.
I've just read that you are following the Slimming world plan and think differently about food As a Slimming World Consultant this made my day. I have lost 3 stone on the plan and was worried about gaining weight during my recovery. Pre op I stocked up on free foods did some batch cooking and bought some ready meals from Iceland. I return to my groups next week and will be proud to say that I am still at my target weight.😀
Well Done Sue x I'd never eaten a yoghurt since I started SW & they're my new best friend! I've not actually joined a class, I bought the Food Optimising book from eBay & am surrounded at work by fellow SW members who are kind enough to share recipes etc. My weigh in each week is in the nurses room at work on her electronic scales & I've lost 1stone 7Ib since the end of Jan. It really has changed my eating habits & I don't like the things I used to eat x
Your doing fab well done. There are lots of non official Facebook slimming world websites which are good for recipes and inspiration.
As you know it's all about lifestyle changes not a diet to follow for a few months then go back to your old ways. Like you I no longer enjoy the fatty foods anymore and I love cooking from scratch. The Iceland meals come in handy though.
I lost the weight for my THR as I wanted to be in good health and not overweight to give myself a better chance of recovery. Which I believed it did.
This forum really helped me in the early days especially when I couldn't sleep. People are so lovely and helpful. So feel free to ask away including Slimming World related questions which I'll be more than happy to answer.
Morning all. I've got my outfit for my friends wedding. I've managed to get 2 stone off & ordered a beautiful 50's style dress 2 sizes smaller than usual! It fits lovely & will allow a few extra pounds if I put on after my OP. I've also bought some lovely ballerina pumps with jewels on & a bag to match so I'm very pleased with myself x
Me again, I am going to a wedding too (in Ireland) so I'm flying on a long journey of 45 mins - I'll be about 10 weeks. But I have ordered online I didn't purchace until last week because wasn't sure of swelling etc so I bought a lose fitting maxi dress. I have just done the shoe bit so I have splashed out on a pair of 2" wedges and a pair of flat sandals adorned with little glass beads. As I say the interned it great, look where you can return for free. I know now at 6 weeks I couldn't have done the shop thing, I get tired and then the whole restriction thing. Hope this helps.
Must admit im like you - i find going round town absolutely exhausting and would much prefer to shop on lone and try on at home . I still get dressed awkwardly so prefer the privacy of my bedroom to communal changing room or restrictive cubicles
