What are these bumps on my butt checks? HPV/Herpes? *Please help *

For the past five years, I have noticed these fleshy feeling bumps that appear on my butt checks and one or two around/near my anus. They are painless, and only itch when I feel that a new one has appeared. Once a new one as appeared on my bottom, they do not bother me, but I know they are there and can see/feel them. They are definitely not blisters, never fill with pus, crack or crust over and disappear. For a very long time, I convinced myself they were genital warts. They are usually worse at night, and if I leave them alone, the appearance and feel of them seem to settle down by the next morning, (although I feel they are still there and feel they are somehow under my skin.). I spoke with an online doctor today from a well-known clinic who said they are definitely not warts. She did tell me that they could be a type of herpes, or even shingles but highly unlikely because they were painless. Do the pictures resemble any of the above? The doctor has advised me leave them well alone if they are not itchy., but I can't help but worry that they are some kind of HPV/Herpes infection.

Dear Anon,

They certainly don’t look like herpes! Herpetic lesions tend to be clustered/grouped together and start as vesicles, then pustules which then ulcerate. Your description doesn’t fit this picture. Warts don’t come and go. So I think we can exclude these two conditions. In any case the location (buttock cheeks) would be an unusual location for either of these two conditions.

Possibilities? Insect/flea bites, folliculitis??

Sorry can’t help.

Adhari.

These definitely don’t look like warts. If I haven’t read the history you described - I would think these were some insect bites, or a spider. It doesn’t look like HPV or Herpes. Feel free to share more pics. Are those near your anus same like these? Do they show on both cheeks? Are there any similar bumps in your perineum area and/or labia?

Thank you for your replies. I can’t believe for years I thought these were something that they probably weren’t…

I only have one near my anus, and it’s exactly the same really. Very small and fleshy to touch. When I woke up this morning it felt like it was under my skin more (but these bumps always feel under my skin, until I wake them up by applying some sort of cream or irritate them a little, then they start to come to the skin surface and look more prominent). When I was convinced these were warts, I applied some apple cider vinegar on them. Oh boy! The amount of these bumps almost tripled. They were everywhere! I didn’t quite understand that they didn’t fall off like people were suggesting, so I did question whether they were warts then. I was thinking they were perhaps flat warts.? I would like to reiterate that they these bumps have come and gone over the years, but I never know if they are truly gone or just under my skin if that makes sense. I always questioned why my body couldn’t clear the HPV infection itself after all these years (I’m a healthy person - don’t drink or smoke, and eat and exercise well).

They are on both cheeks and I have any other bumps like these on my labia, or anywhere near my vagina. I’m pretty certain they are not herpes because like I say, they are painless and do not crust over, or have pus in them or anything like that.
