I am messaging because I need help!
For the past few years I have been suffering with dizzy spells, but It only happens when I am in a car, driving in a straight line, it feels like everything is moving a lot faster that it is and I can't focus on anything!
My blood pressure if fine!
I have been to a neurologist and had a MRI scan, conclusion was, everything was fine.
I was then sent to audiology that ran every test in the book, they told me my ears are ok
I went to my opticians who ran a peripheral vision test about 5 time and said everything was fine!
My GP said there is nothing else that can be done!
If I am not able to get in a car soon I am going to lose my job!
Can you please help?
Have you ever heard of anything even similar to this or have any advise of what I can do?
Thanks
Jennifer Rogers
Hi Jennifer
I am so sorry that you are going through this, it must be awful.
Do you think that it could be in some way anticipatory now as it has happened so often? I am not in any way minimising what you are going through but it could be that you are getting anxious each time you get in a car because you know what will happen. Something like the chicken and egg problem.
I hope that you feel better soon.
Elena
Hi
Thanks for replying :0)
I did think of that but I am a very relaxed driver. I don't have road rage (my friends say I am that laid back I will fall over) I have never been in an accident or even a "near miss"!
With me havering dizzy spells I am not allowed in a car, so I can't keep an eye on any patterns of when it happens! I believe they may have stopped about two months ago so I got back behind the wheel and they were just as bad!
They don't always happen on the same roads!
I will be allowed back in a car when a medical specialist can explain what it was and can say it won't happen again! If that doesn't happen I will have to send my licence back to the DVLA! :0(
So at the min, I am asking anyone and everyone, hoping a fresh pair of eyes might be able to see something I haven't!
Hi Jennifer , I have dizzy spells from October 2013 but GP said he is not going to do any test just send me to ENT specialist . ENT performed Eplyes maneuver , after which I felt even more horrible. Who sent you to MRI scan ? I really feel hopeless . I only know that I started to have this dizziness after stress .
Hi
Sorry to hear you are havering problems, it is very frustrating!
It was my GP that sent me to a neurologist and he sent me for a MRI.
Good luck x
Hi Jennifer, thank you for reply. I suggest you to read today's Daily Mail (Tuesday 21.01/2014) The article called ' ''When dizzy spells mean your heart has stopped''
It is shame we have to look for help in news papers and discussions when GP like mine doesn't want to hear about patient's problems.
It is really interesting!!!
Thank you :0) xx
I am going to go and have another word with my GP!
Hi Jennifer,
I'm sorry to hear about this - it sounds terrible.
I know the audiologist said your ears are fine, but since your spells only happen when you're moving, I'm wondering if it couldn't still be some kind of positional vertigo. Obviously I'm no expert, but maybe they could run some ear tests while simulating movement? This might be a stupid suggestion but I just wanted to chime in since I know how frustrating it is to go undiagnosed.
Best of luck!
Hi Hun
It's not a stupid suggestion at all!!!
I will mention it to my doctor and see what they can do!
Thank You
Xx
Hi Jennifer,
I have been suffering the very same symptoms as you for 15 months now. Had all the same tests as you. Really getting me down that I can't drive and like you, will lose my job soon if I cannot resolve this.
I wonder how you are getting on?
Would be great to hear from you.
Best regards
Jenny
Oddly enough I am another Jennifer/Jenny to have this issue. I've wondered what has come about this? I've dealt with it for a few years and it gets stronger now when I go through it. I am driving and I get the feeling I can't stop my head from spinning then I think i will pass out. One time I pulled to the side of the road just crying so badly cuz I was so scared. How can people deal with this? One had a doctor tell me....I won't take care of this until you stop drinking caffine. Haven't been to that doc since.
Guys, ME too - 55 years old have had it for several years, dont want to repeat but agree with all comments - has anyone figured it out yet !! we all did not have this 10 years ago, but do Now. Must be more of us out there and someone with an answer.
J, u ever figure this out, what happened 15 months ago to start it ?
I can drive back roads but not Highways.....was fine years ago....now not fine. John
Hi Jennifer,
I'm having a similar problem, not at night necessarily. I keep getting dizzy when driving at highway speed (USer here). Then I get so anxious I feel like I might have a stroke if I keep going.
I came across something called BENIGN PAROXYSMAL POSITIONAL VERTIGO (BPPV) that I wanted to share with everyone here. It is dizziness caused by movement of calcium crystals inside the inner ear. There is a simple manipulation called the Epley Maneuver that clears up the problem in most cases.
Not that it is necessarily the problem any of us have, I just wanted to post this here in case it helps you or anyone else who sees this thread.
Cheers,
Dawn
Thank you for sharing. Had loads of tests and appears nothing physically wrong so having anxiety therapy. This is based on a terrifying first episode on a motorway. Will definitely explore the Epley manoeuvre. Thank you so much xxx
Hello Dawn, I assume u go to a ENT doctor to get the BPPV treated ?
I did go to a chiroprator with no positive results. So I will make an appointment with an ENT Doc, I hope this is it!!! thx, John
Hi Jennifer, I have been experiencing similar, started while driving, felt light headed on the freeway and pulled over, it has happened twice (two different drives - both two hour duration), over the past few months it has now happened while drive to/from work, but thought to be an anxeity attack, but over the past several months and experiencing again and again, I do believe anxiety attacks are occuring because I am afraid I will become light headed, but now have been able to get the anxiety attacks under control but still feel light headed on the freeways, but perfectly fine on city roads (just perfect). I am headed to my GP to start narrowing down the cause of this and will post my findings. Ragen
I had vertigo 4 years ago every month about the same time for 3 months. I went to vestibular therapy and did the Epley maneuver. It went away for 4 years. 3 weeks ago I had a really bad spinning episode that lasted 8 hrs. I was in the hospital 2 days. Had 2 Cat scans and found nothing. I drive a school bus and every time I try to drive I get dizzy and am in danger of losing my job since I've been off 3 weeks. I'm doing therapy and its not working. I see my ENT today and am going to ask for ear tubes. Well see what he says. I'll let you know.
Ragen, this is me too,(perfect on city roads) been to all the Doctors, nothing physical, hard to believe its in my head ?? But it may be, going to a psyshiatrist in a few weeks.....the neurologist put me on Pixil, helps a little, on Very LOW dose.....can't wait if I can get this FIXED !!!
Hi everyone!
My dizzy spells on the freeway first started about 7 years ago, disappeared for a few years and now back with major vengeance! Gp referred me to a neurologist which then did an EEG scan and results were a type of seizure going on. Didn't give further reason for WHY it was happening. I was prescribed Topamax and weened to a pretty high dosage over a year because I wasn't seeing results. I stopped taking it and now I'm worse driving
hope someone figures this out!
