Hi. I am on the same boat. I got pregnant and at 6 months woke up one morning and felt dizzy...now I had this for 18 months and I feel like I am going to pass out one of this days or just hard to balanced. Is horrible I can't shower, wash the dishes, cook with out feeling dizzy. I am attending to an ENT but they haven't helped. They prescribed meclizine 25mg but did nothing! So they took me off, other than that I'm with dizziness 24/7 . Did anybody get better???....

Did the ENT test you for bppv?

See a neuro-otologist. They specialize in the inner ear. They will do testing to find out what’s causing the dizziness. Take care.

Is this dizziness actual vertigo (i.e. the room is spinning) or is it just lightheadedness (you feel faint as though you might collapse).

If its the latter then this isn’t an ENT problem.

So sorry to hear about this. Poster Ben (who sounds as if he might be a medical student or similar) is asking a good question. Does the room appear to spin uncontrollably when you move your head into certain positions, causing you to fall or at least feel as if you're going to? As he says, if this is not the case, then you're suffering from lightheadedness rather than true vertigo. There could be all kinds of causes for this.

In my personal experience (three attacks of BPPV in my life, of which two this year) ENT doctors aren't best-placed for investigating or treating vertigo. During my first attack, about 25 years ago, an ENT doctor actually succeeded in making things worse!

The ENT doctor I saw during the nasty attack I had at the start of this year just looked in my ears, did a hearing test, had his nurse syringe one ear, then told me the consultation was over. My GP then referred me to a specialist vestibular physiotherapist, who cured me in minutes with the Epley manoeuvre.

I would, however, stress that the Epley is specific for vertigo due to BPPV (you can google it) and won't help other conditions. Also, it's not suitable for home use - whatever the internet says - and should only be performed by, or under the supervision of, an expert practitioner.

I hope you'll soon find some relief from your upsetting condition.
