I have IBS and I have really been suffering with it lately.
I am also prone to anal fissues and have a hemorrhoid which I've had for months since the prescribled cream didn't work.
The other night I was very constipated and when I went, It was an extremely painful experience. I tore myself in numerous places and had a huge hemorrhoid afterward, and now i'm afraid to go again.
I normally used to drink very strong coffee to help me go when I felt I might have problems, but coffee has started making me feel very nauseous throughout to day, so I feel reluctant to drink it.
I haven't had any problems like this for months, and I have a well balanced diet, which hasn't really changed, so I believe this problem is down to my IBS.
I really want a strong and effective laxative to use until this problem passes. Can anyone recommend anything please?
Think you would be best visiting your GP and get the correct meds, so many different types but think you need to explain what's going on. Wish you luck.
Movicol is great you can get it on prescription or just buy it. I think it works out cheaper on prescription. Get some herbal Senna tablets also and take one of them every evening. This combination is what I had prescribed to me by the hospital and it worked well. X
Btw coffee probably isn't the best thing to rely on to keep you regular, I find eating tinned prunes daily keeps problems at bay. You only need 6 per day with breakfast x
I did actually take movicol on a regular basis before I started drinking coffee as an alternative, and most of the time it wasn't strong enough for me. It would make me feel like I need to go, but it didn't help with softening so it used to cause a lot of painful problems with the anal fissures.
Not sure if you are in the UK but Laxido on prescription is excellent for softening, one sachet before bedtime. Also Ducolax suppositories work very well for constipation. Take one around teatime if you aren't going out anywhere and you will be clear by bedtime.
But as above, please see a Doctor. Best to be on the safe side.
