What no physio

Hi I have not been advised to have physiotherapy follow my THR what would you recommend ... Should I go and have some if so what and how much

I had 4 hydrotherapy sessions and just about to have 2nd of gym based physio this week....at the Beaumont in Bolton...paid for by BUPA but I believe about £42 a session...worth every penny...the hydro pool sessions especially....have you been given exercises!.?

I am in the same position. Had mine done in Oswestry and all they told me to do was walk walk and walk. Have my six week review next week so will ask why they didnt give exercises as a lot of people have been.

How long into rehab are you (if you know what I mean smile )

A week since my operation ... I can walk around my block say 20 mins longer if I take a rest .. However park benches are too low.  I can potter round my flat without crutches ,. But quite curious as everyone seem to have exercises to do .. I went to Writington they do over 1800 THR per year .. So they must know what they are doing ,,,,but I am now wondering info should see a physio

No exercises at all just walk ..as I see fit.  I am not allowed to do exercise such as swimming till post 6 week review

I've been given the same advice too...just lots of walking, but given no physio.

im seeing my GP next week and will ask to be referred for physio and an X-Ray,which I was told at my six week consultation was unnecessary.

Twelve weeks post op and I'm still getting pain in the joint, something isn't quite right IMO.

Weird isn't it I went private but at an NHS foundation hospital so some of the services where NHS provided .. As when I have been private for other operations they were pushing physio like mad.  It kind of made me wonder .. If I should investigate further

I am getting very curious about it too. Will push for an answer during my review.

Im only about 6mls from the Beaumont Chris.

Don't mind paying to go private either,if as you say it's worthwhile,I'll make some enquiries next week..thanks.

You can arrange yourself with beaumont...someone was doing it while I was there...

Thanks

I am in Liverpool so not too far I am waiting for a physio with yoga experience to come back to me .. As I am ayoga fiend and want to get back in to it

Hydro pool is just exercises supported by the water...i was swimming at 7 weeks but sort of doggie paddle legs...no breast stroke legs for 6 months I've been told...

We're about the same distance...in Atherton!

I will probably forgo water till after 6 weeks. ,, but going to look into this yoga physio person

physio recommended pilates after 3 months....might give that a try...

Is physiotherapy physical therapy? I am assuming it is, i had 2 weeks, 3 times a week right after the surgery, the rest of the i do it alone at home, same exercises therapist showed me.

I am due to have my THR and have been given exercises to do before the op and my GP has told me she is going to arrange for me to have extra physio after the op because she doesn't think the exercises given are enough!! Can you not have a word with your GP rather than paying for it

Folks .. Looking at some of the web sites

Follow up physiotherapy is not routinely needed and you will be advised if you do require any. If you do it will be arranged for you before you leave hospital

all seems a bit hit and miss .. But I feel better after your comments and going to try some of the simple exercises ...

Its all a bit hit and miss..we all get such different advice, before and after....just do what you feel comfortable doing plus a bit to stretch yourself!!  Jus done my rubber band exercise and it kills!!
