What's your perspective for the gym?

I would like to ask you a question , what's your point of view when you are (started)going to the gym?

Is your only reason to lose weight and getting the body that you like ?

Is it that you like to meet new people ?

Is it about having fun?

Is it something like a goal? Do you see it as something that boosts your confidence?

Or do you feel like a job for instance you have to exercise + diet plan in order to achieve your healthy lifestyle or getting the body you want?

If you find this questions inappropriate,or you dont feel like sharing your thoughts about it you don't have to answer no worries

I am sorry if i posted in wrong section i just wanted to know the point of people in the gym.

Hi

As you don't say what the purpose of your questions is I'm not sure if my reply will be useful to you but I hope so.

I no longer go to the gym but I did go for many years when I was younger.  When I did go it was for most of the things you have listed above. There were periods when, although I paid membership to a gym, I didn't use it very often. I never overused the gym because I believe that excess in anything is not good.  The most I did attend in one week would be 2 or 3 times.

Although I used the gym as a way of toning my body I did not see it as a way of losing weight. From a very young age I believed in a healthy way of eating, which was to allow yourself plenty of the good foods and everything else in moderation. By abiding to this principle I've maintained a constant weight throughout my life.

Now, I'm retired, I no longer go to the gym. I now have a dog and get all the exercise I need walking him.  I get everything and more than I did from the gym (fresh air, meeting people and unconditional love!).  Also, it's much cheaper!

As an added, I don't drink and don't smoke but despite all of this I still have some health issues, but none related to lifestyle!

I hope you find this helpful.

Hi TheUnivited

I started going to the Gym when my doctor told me I was not fit. I was 50 at the time. I had not done any serious exercise since I was 33 when I did Karate,On reflection this shocked me into action.

My goal was to improve my overall strength and geneal fitness. I went to the Gym twice a week and very gradually matters improved.

I am now well into my 75th year and can do most things. My strength is very good but my stamina is gradually ebbing away, but that is to be expected. Can't have any complaints though. My children and grandchildren tell me I don't look my age so something has worked for me.

My wife and i have just returned from  hol on the banks of the Mexican Gulf. The swimming was great, which is something I really enjoy.

Cheers

This sounds so inspiratin man keep up the good work and be careful man

Goodluck

I started going to the gym to keep fit and build up my muscles. But I go there with my friends, so this is not just a training, but also a fun time in a good company. Of course, it's also a way to spend time instead of simply going home after the work.

I joined the gym to help me become fitter and hopefully lose weight, and make friends. Five years later, and attending 4 times a week for 30 min sessions...No friends made, No weight lost, and still have No energy..Was it worth me spending all that money on membership fees?

Mine is all of the above, sick of getting out of breath walking the stairs, being apart of making new friend so I can become more confident inmyself and listen to other peoples successful stories.

And of course so i can feel great Knowing when I go I am one step closer to my goal! Which is, a healthier me and fingers crosses for a few loss of dress sizes lol
