I stayed in a hotel that allowed pets. 2 days after that i suddenly had intense burning on my lids and itching and sandy feeling. Went to eye dr,i took tobradex for 1 day and it worked but i stopped because someone scared me about steriods,4 months later and im a mess,swollen lids and burning,itchying,went to dr and he wont give me medicine,gave me lid scrubs,warm compresses,and thats all. what if i have infection or something, i want medicine,lol i read it could be mites,allergic,what medicine is out ther that worked for others so i know? was that wrong of him to not give me medicine?

I'm sorry you're not getting much help from the doctor. He should be able to prescribe erythromycin ointment. Or maybe ask to see a specialist, like an opthalmologist?

You really should have contnued with the steroid based medicine , it can do more harm than good not to continue .

I was diagnosed with blepharitis almost a year ago. i have since had to use Tobradex 5 out of 7 days of the week because it is personally the only thing that keeps my blepharitis in control. I see an ophlamologist, who checks my eye pressure every 6 months and states that as long as the pressure is good and the ointment is working, I should continue using it as long as I need it. I have researched and see that this is probably not the best advice, but I have tried everything else and it is working for me! I also use the eyelid scrubs and warm washcloth compresses both morning and night, which are surprisingly helpful. I also had to stop wearing eyeshadow and eyeliner. My general doctor did not know much about bleph, so i had to see an eye doc - you might need to, too. I agree with the other posts that you probably should have used the tobradex longer - i think the normal dosage amount calls for at least 10 days. Be as diligent as possible in a routine and hopefully you will be able to get rid of it before it gets too terrible! There is also information on this site about using Wet Wipes - I tried those in combination with all the above mentioned remedies and I think that it helped cure my initial flare up so that now I am better in control, but those are also a personal choice.

Also, there are ointments that do not have steriods - I didn't have any luck with them, but you might.

I read all these stories about eyelid dermatitis and I have been through it for 7 years . Finally I went to a Dr in Phila and she cured it or shall I say she stopped it with an ointment that worked within the first 24 hours. I no longer have the miserable red swollen eye that would peel and burn. The ointment is called
Tacrolimus 0.03. It is a nonsteriodal ointment that is safe for usage on the eyelid. I use it when needed as once I got control over this annoying problem I use it when needed. When anything is used in moderation your body tolerates it well. This is game changer for me. Life now is so much better. HOpe this helps a few people as some of the dermatitis problems can be different in origin.

wow,thank you ,all of you. I would like the names of the oinments that do not have steriods. I should of continued but i didnt,cant go back now. I heard about mites causes this as well,I LOVED LOVED EYE MAKEUP,SMOKEY ALL DAY AND NIGHT,LOL So with that being said ,i did see an opthamologist and he said no to steriods and antibiotic. first line he said was lid scrubs,hot water soakes ,and thats it. Then to go back,when it first started it was horrible,now they swell turn red with rings and burn and just feel like itchy. Did anyone use clindex wipes,i think thats right? any thing i can do ,please tell me,thank you,and i hope you all get relief soon 
oh one more thing,could this be considered an auto immune response?

None of the wipes works for me as they made it worse. The ointment I use is TACROLIMUS 0.03 Works incredibly.

Even if it is an auto immune reponse, you still need to deal with it up front and personal. Get rid of it as your skin has to remember how it feels when it is not inflamed.
Not sure about books as I have read them all on this problem. I found the absolute solution to mine and this is all I can give. My Derm problem was horrible and nothing was working, nothing, this changed my life. Just let your dr know about the ointment and ask for it. They want to help you right?

one more question ,this just may be the itchyness of the lids but is it normal to feel itchy crawly feeling under eye abone the cheek with this?
the itchiness is the crawling is coming from the inflamation. You need to get that anti inflamatory on it soon. The Steroids only work for a short time and then it gets worse. An anti inflammatory ointment is worth the try.
I will warn you though this Ointment is expensive but worth every penny. If you have insurance then it will be fine.
