I had my Turp 3 weeks ago, I've looked on NHS hospital web pages and nearly all give different rules to follow, IE: driving: some say " no driving for 4 weeks" others say "2 weeks" others " when you feel able to do an emergency stop". other guide lines also differ. as these are all NHS guide lines should they not all be the same. ? the notes they gave me leaving hospital were just a download from another Hospital site.
Has any one else been perplexed by what information should be followed.

I drove 3 days after my TURP
but what advice did they give you, also did you have a spinal or general ?
It is the same with hospital advice for all conditions and for preparation for procedures. If you Google 'advice after turp' and variations of it advice from different hospitals wil come up.
I had general and he never said not to drive
That's my point derek, they all seem to differ, I've googled turp and come up with different advice. is it the surgeons that give the advice or some dept.

They all say not to drive for at least 48 hours after surgery,( That's in the UK. ) they also tell you to contact your insurance company as you may not be covered for a certain time, depending on your company.
When I had a PVP at Newcastle it was written by the Urology Sister. When I had Thulim Laser last year the information was from a nurse on the ward but they gave me the number for the urology nurse if I had problems at home.
It seems they want to get you in and out as fast as possible, I had a letter from my uro, which said " I hope you are recovering from your operation, the tissue removed from your prostate proved benign and not malignant which must put your mind at ease, there is no need for a follow up appointment.
I therefore wish you well."
I wonder how much no follow up saves the NHS. ?
They usually say, You don't want to stay here to long as you may get a hospital aquired infection:-)
Hi Howard; Did you have a regular turp or a button turp??? Do you have to self cath and if so for how long??? If so how painful is the self cathing??? What other side effects have you had over the last 3 weeks??? Where is NHS Hospital??? Hope you will help us sufferers with more "detailed info" on the last 3 weeks. Take Care.

I had the Turp done using the traditional heated wire method ( prior to the turp I had a foley Catheter in for 7 weeks without for 2 weeks and back in for another 7) On the day off the Op I was walked down to theatre asked to get on the trolley after which an IV was put into the back of my hand, I was then told that this is where I count, I remembered nothing until I was in the recovery room, I looked up to see to clear bags of fluid which I kid you not were the size of pillow cases the tube from these were attached to a foley catheter ( this what was washing my bladder out ) another tube was coming from the catheter and leading to a pillow case bag fixed to the bed which contained blood that was being flushed from my bladder. The foley and the bags stayed with me until the following morning when the foley and bags were removed. It was then that I managed to urinate on my own into a bottle ( I’ve not urinated like that since I was in my teens ) after emptying my bladder an ultra sound was done on my bladder
Unfortunately I was retaining 200mls and did so all day. Which meant I was discharged with a foley attached ( This was removed by the district nurse day 10 post op.
Since then I’ve had no trouble peeing, I did however have urgency ( peeing small amounts every hour ) now 3 weeks on I can go all night without needing the toilet and can go for 4 hours during the day. The blood in the urine cleared apart from when I just started to pee then turn clear. However on day 9 I passed a scab and some blood ( that lasted a day ) on day 15 a few bigger scabs came away ( bleeding lasted 3 days ) I now have no blood and no real pain just an uncomfortable feeling
When starting to pee and a pain underneath when I finish.
WOULD I STILL HAVE THE TURP KNOWING WHAT I KNOW NOW.
THE ANSWER IS A BIG YES.

I forgot to mention the Turp was done at Torbay Hospital.
He is obviously in America as he did not know NHS Hospital.
I miss read him as I thought he was asking which NHS hospital.
I think being active the first few days prolonged my bleeding.
I was advised not to lift more than 15 pounds.
