Topic title. I am finally at the point where I know I need my gallbladder out, so I’m going to see a doctor either in the next few days or next Monday, whichever comes first.
I have had an attack between 1 - 3 times per year from when I was 14 til now, 29. Only thing that put me off having any surgery was after about 22, each time I had one it didn’t feel so bad and I just thought “meh, it’s gone”, and moved on with life.
My mother said that she had hers out 12 years after her first attack, when she was 20.
So, how about you guys?
Hi Anton ..... I had my gallbladder removed in 2015 . I believe my gb was diseased as far back as the late 90's where I would experience moderate pain and what I now know to be classic gb symptoms. Even so when they became more painful back in 2012 I still did nothing about it, except one evening it was so bad my son called NHS direct, and after giving classic symptoms to the nurse, she merely told me to take two paracetomol tablets (she obviously hadn't come across gallstone attacks). Then in 2014 after an evening meal I felt very sick. I felt sick all through the night and finally in the early hours I vomited a barely digested meal from the previous evening. I went straight to my doctor that morning who immediately diagnosed gallstones and so began trips to the hospital for scans and doctor's meetings etc. finally having my gb removed in April 2015.I think the only reason I did nothing about it sooner was because initially it wasn't too bad and I was able to put up with it and get on with life when the attack passed; however, by late 2014 the attacks were getting very very painful, and closer together. My gallbladder was obviously too diseased to save - it needed to come out. Probably you will come to the same conclusion.
Sending you best wishes.
hi there ,
I had my gallbladder removed monday 1st july 2019. i have had 4 attacks since christmas, 2 resulting in my going to hospital. The attacks were that painful surgery was my only option. Healing nicely and feeling good. Good luck with you journey.
Lisa
hi anton. mine started about 3 years ago. i am getting it out next week.
That's how I've been, most of the time it's been painful but not hard to get over. It's somewhat of a relief to see someone else with gallstones for just as long as me, as my main worry is that from the attacks I've causing so much damage to me that the surgeons find it harder to remove and repair me. Did your surgeons say anything about the state of your gallbladder afterwards?
hi lisa,
