Quand avez-vous changé pour la montée normale des escaliers ?

Hi, I'm coming up to 6 weeks post LTHR, am walking well without a stick however still carry one with me as I notice a slight limp develops when the hip or I get tired.  My question is, when did those of you who are further down the line than me move from doing the "good leg up, bad leg down" method of stair climbing, ie when did you start climbing stairs with both legs?  I'm sure there's no correct answer, just curious to see what the average is!

Many thanks to all participants on this forum, it's helped me with post op depression, post op pain, knowing I'm not the only person in the world kept awake in the wee small hours of the morning and SO much more!  thank you fellow hippies!!!! Janine xxx

I found it just came naturally, when I wanted to get up the stairs faster and got too impatient I just found myself going up 'normally' - not sure when it was, but within 6 weeks certainly.

When I realised what I'd done, I was concerned about it for a while, but realised that my body was actually ready for me to do that.

Like Graham, I found it just happened between 4 and 5 weeks. Going up was significantly easier to start with, rather than going down.

Hi It all depends on how quickley you recover. I was over the 6 weeks. I was over doing things anyway as I am a carer & really had no one to care for me ! As I am not allowed to be ill. But thats another story. Regards Amandah

Je suis si content que tu demandes, je pensais que c'était pour la vie  lol

I'm not sure exactly when, but it must have been about 5 weeks. Going down the stairs was a totally different story and remains a challenge when tired ( I am about 5 months but waiting for hip #2).

J'ai commencé aujourd'hui, j'ai 3 semaines et un jour depuis ma THR.

Je suis un peu impatiente avec les lents trajets en haut et en bas des escaliers !

I'm not quite at 3 weeks post LTHR and have been able to go downstairs properly for a few days and upstairs just today. But when my muscles are tired or very stiff, I revert to one step at a time. I'm not sure when/if I'm supposed to be doing most things (released from hospital with hardly any precautions and no exercises). I still find getting up off the loo without anything to hold onto very hard though. I guess recovery is an individual thing.

Hi, thanks for the replies folks, were you all posterior approach or Anterior - I'm posterior and at 5 weeks simply can't do stairs normally with the operated leg, due to see consultant a week today so will ask then.  thanks again, happy hippilife!! xxx

Hi

I'll be honest I was really scared of doing this.  But had physio early on from 2 weeks and he got me going up and down at about 4-5 weeks but up was easier to start with.

I was posterior.

Don't worry too much about your progress - you may be slower on the stairs, but quicker to go limp-free on the straight. We all recover at a different rate.

Posterior here  !

I was maybe week 3, but I still had to hold onto the rail. By week 4 I could do it without the rail, but had a hand close...just in case!

Hi Janine, I'm 10 weeks tomorrow & gave only just started going upstairs properly. I have to think about it though! I was in so much pain post-op for around 2 years, it's just habit that I go up one at a time. My stairs are quite steep & I only have a bannister rail on 1 side so coming down us a different matter! Other than that my recovery has been great & I'm going back to work next week x

J'aimerais pouvoir monter les escaliers normalement.... Je suis à environ 6 mois post-op et bien que la hanche puisse monter les escaliers normalement, mes genoux ne veulent pas sad

I started to go downstairs normally after 4-5 weeks and upstairs at 5 weeks, but it has taken a few days to master that and still have to think about it at 6 weeks 2 days.
