I am taking 40mg of somac daily for gastritis. My GI specialist advised me to take it 30 minutes prior to breakfast in the mornings. My GP today has advised me it is best to take it before bed as your stomach is empty for so long over night and thats when the acid builds up and sits in your stomach.
I just wanted to see what others views and recommendations are?
Agree with GP, when you are upright usually gastristis not as bad, you might get pain, but the pain is coming from the burning already done.
Keep to a very bland diet if you can, no cinnamon, no red meat at night, no onions or garlic, no chocolate, these are all triggers for me, garlic being the worst.
When you feel the burning and or dis-comfort, try this - 1/3 cup of milk, topped up with boiling water, just until it is nice and warm, but not hot, use your finger, and then sit down and sip slowly, works for me every time, seems to break the cycle, sometimes causes me to have huge burp, but releases the pain.
Night ii most useful since lying down I slept on a bed wedge from Amazon. After time it aides in healing by preventing the acid from backing up thru that unlocked door in the esophagus. Eventually it healed about two years.
