¿Quién espera a que se termine el segundo?

Hi Everyone

I have seen others say they are like me waiting to have there scond hip done. So who is waiting and when do you think you will be done ?

I always thought having both hips done was not the norm. But it seems like there are a good few of us out there.

Are you feeling more aprihencive or because you know what it all involves now are you a little more relaxed about it ?

HI have to say and being totally honest I am more scred than I was the first time. I think it is because it has taken me longer to heal and for things to go right and I am hoping this time they don't.

Here are a few pictures to shre too..

Scenic shots are lovely. Thank you

I have oa in other hip but had no pain in it pre op so hope it lastsma while. Pics are brilliant. You must have a great camera.

Hi I am on the waiting list, I spoke with the surgeons Secretary last Tuesday and she confirmed I was on the list and his letter to my doctor dated 7th July it said that my other hip needs replacing and plans to do this in 2 months time so I presume that will be sometime sept/oct as for being apprehensive I must admit I feel very relaxed about it all, because I know what is going to happen,

I am waiting for my other hip to be done, I have just been refferred to the orthopedic dept, hopefully I will get the same surgeon but apparently there is no guarantee. I will fight for the same one as I have trust and confidence in him. I think I am a bit more apprehensive about this one as I put in my other post, probably because I now know what is going to happen, but it won't stop me having the next one done with the same team.

Pics are good by the way maybe I should sort some oout that I've taken when out and about. xxx

Hi Hailea,

I'm in Toronto and had my right done last July 29th and knew that I needed the left done...it was just a toss up what one first.....problem here, at least with my doctor, you go back on the bottom of the list so I have no idea when I will get it done, they only give you two weeks notice, and there is NO cancellation list.....very fustrating as I now know how great I will feel with two new hips but living with one bad one still makes me just as imobile as before...could be worse!

My anxiety was never with the surgery itself (I was very luck and no complications and next to no pain after), but the general (I couldn't handle a spinal)....I had a bad experience in surgery once where the intervenious moved and no one noticed and the meds went under the skin and they were just about ready to cut...so you can see my fear!!!!!  Of course they all say that will never happen again, but trust me when it happens once the fear stays forever.

Patricia

When I started having probs with right hip they x-rayed and said left much worse.  I said 'but right hurts and left doesn't '. Even the day I arrived in hospital surgeon said 'we are operating on left' and I aid 'NO, my right please'. As my left femur is protruding through the acetabulum they are concerned to catch it before the hip collapses so they have said they keep x-rating and then replace it as soon as any cracking appears 😕 I'm a private patient anyway.  I'm much more worried about the second op purely because I think it will be more difficult if the femur is already protrusio.

Hi Hailea, I am 3.5 post right hip and my consultant says he will do the other one in 6 months. I am already noticing massive changes to the right but the left is still burning that oa burn.

I don't care how bad the recovery is because I never want to get back to the state I was in before the op. I practically crawled into my last appt with the consultant on 16th June. Had the op on the 30th and walking upright now, like a bit of magic.

Number two? Bring it on

Hi. I had the first one done at the end of Feb - second one booked for 13 August. In so much pain with this one, and the new one feels so good, I am literally counting the days!

Thank you Ginger

You are lucky not to have the pain  attractac. I hope it lasts you a while too.

You could have the best most expencive camara on the market but if you don't know how to use it then it is a waste of time and money.

I have a nikon D80. They don't make them any more. They seem to bring out a new better one every year or two.

Hi Hailea,

I'm going in 2morro for my 2nd tthr, and I am feeling nervous, strange, as you say we know what to expect, but it has to done as the pain has become intolerable, so I hope you get your date soon, good luck,

Lynne x

Hi Marilyn

Glad you won't have to wait too long. Hope your not getting too much pain. Bet your looking forward to a pain free christmas.

Hi Gillcat

I hope you get the same surgeon too. I knopw I am having the same one.

Mine does not like it if another surgeon steps on his toes. There are 6 other surgons at my hospital. but he is the top one there. Yes I am a little more scared because I know what is coming. But I can't wait to be totally pain free & off all these meds life almost back to normal and have a few beers. It has been almost a year since my last beer. I won't get to have a few for my Birthday but  i would love to celabrate christmas with a few. I only have 2 more ops after this one. But they are only day cases so as long as everything goes ok I will be happy.

Thank you. Yes you should ost up some of your photos. Would love to see some.x

Hi Patricia

I know Toronto quite well. I have relatives who live out there. In a place called Kimberly. Always watch the hockey and have folowed the leafs since I was a kid. Not that they are doing that great these days.

Yeah I have a fear of needles so I do understand. I can't have a spinal any way because thew hospital I was under at the time they tried to give me one when I had to have an emergancy C section and they found it too dangerous because I could feel the needle going in.

I would sooner have a general and be knocked out any way. So I am with you on that. Oh yes when you have had one bad experience by staff who don't care it stays with you for ever. I have been told many times by nurses to get over it. My answer to them is would you say that to anyone with depression. It soon shuts them up.I could have had my operations done privatly if I could sue because of some of the things some nurses have said to me in the past.

Hi Laura

I know what you mean. My surgeon and I tossed a coin to see which one we would do first. they both hurt the same. But now having had my left one done my right one has collapsed and the pain is unbearable. So I know what you mean. If I had, had the right one done my surgoen said the same would have happened to my left one so it didn't matter which was done first. Yeah I am worried about my op. My surgeon hasn't mentuioned it going to be more difficult. But I guess it depemnds where the bone has collaped. I am trying my best to nurse it and keep weight off it as much as I can.

I hope you won't have to wait too long. x

Hi Kate

WoW 6 months ? I hope you are not in too much pain with the unoperated side. As for the burning. Have you thought you may be pushing yourself a little too much in what ever you are doing every day ?

I was in a wheelchair in the end and was on crutches round the house but crawling upstairs to the bathroom so had to invest in my own toilet downstairs which is in the under stairs cupboard. I am coming up to week 15 and still havn't tried the stairs or had a bath because no one has said any different and I am not suyre I would be able to get out even if I had a bath.

Yes I had my first op on April 15th and was doing quiet well and walking upright till the right hip ggave out. I am scared and always will be. But I know it has to be done if I want this pain to stop. I know I am in good hands and that means a lot.

Hi Shirley

I hope you don't get cancled which is the norm this time of year because of the holidays. I get a few niggles from my new one but nothing I can't cope with and I feel it is just the muscles  / nerves and new hip settling down.

I wish you luck. Not long to go now. x

Hi Lynne

I wish you luck for tomorrow. I hope it goes ahead. It can be a bit hit and miss this time of year when staff all have to have there turn at a summer break.

Same here. the pain  has become so bad my GP has had to put me on morphine tablets with oramorph and paracetamol as break through pain releaf and it still hurts.

I am seeing my surgeon in 3 weeks and he has said he will have me in in september probably in the first two weeks. I will find out for deffo. when he comes back from leave in August and I see him then.

Yes I am down for my next one my left next Thursday, if they dont cancell it again, but this time, I have another surgeon doing it, and my left leg is about 1.5 cms shorter than my right, it worries me and will let him know that that is my main concern before the operation starts.

thanks for sharing the photos here are a few more of my favs from Blackpool and the Lakes.

Ian.
