Hi,
Surely I cannot be the only woman out there suffering from the worst stomach pains ever befor a period.
Literally 3-2 days before a period Im having the worst cramps, back aches, nausea and stomach aches!!!
I'll lierally be hovering over the toilet bowl trying to vomit!
But then as soon as the next day comes it'll all be gone and I'll have my periods. It's insane.
Then 2 days after I finish a cycle, boom! Starts again for about 4 days.. Then after that my IBS only hits when I have a really bad flare.
So far, I haven't been suffering a lot. I've been at home I recently quit my job so... It's taken a lot of pressure off my back. But I'm dying to get back into the workforce (im 18 and at Univeristy) to have that routine of eating and sleeping right.
Anyone else found ways to CONTROL they're symptoms ??
Dear aussiechick,
It is completely normal for your IBS symptoms to get worse when you have your period. You have my sympathy it must be awful for you. During and after a period your body is going through all sorts of bio-chemical changes and these changes will affect your emotional state. Your bowel will respond directly as your emotions change because there is a very well known link between the bowel and the brain.
I know it will be difficult for you but you might want to consider trying the low FODMAP diet as this helps lots of people with IBS.
It helps if you can eliminate wheat, dairy, tea, coffee, alcohol, fizzy drinks, spicy and acidic foods, fats and chocolate from your diet.
Walk whenever you can as exercise will help. Drink lots of water and try to get as much rest as possible, particulary over the time you have your period. Keeping a food diary will help you to discover the foods which aggravate your condition.
I hope I have given you some help in this text
Please look after yourself and I really hope your condition improves.
Very best wishes
bob
Hiya, I never used to have IBS as severe as I do now, but in my late teens and 20s I suffered terrible diarrhoea and crazy pains in my lower back for 2 days pre- and post- period! Never thought from that that I would end up like this! I don't have periods now due to the implant, but I do wonder whether my IBS would be worse around these times if I did!
