I'm going into wk 7 post op and have my third hosptial appointment tomorrow. They have told me I will need an xray, the first one since the day of the op and I will also have the pin in my second (previously hammer toe) removed (I am guessing that is assuming all is ok with the xray) and they said the dressing will also be removed (hooray, I will get my foot back!). I am excited and nervous all at the same time and wondering what to expect next.... how will the foot feel, will there be more pain, will I still need to keep it elevated????
Hi, i had my bandages and pin removed from my second toe at 4.5 weeks. I did not feel a thing, the nurse had removed it before i knew! The surprise for me that i was expected to walk normally after being in the heel weight bearing shoe. I did find my toes felt a bit stiff at first and they definately didnt look like they used to. They were a bit chubby and swollen at the base. i am now 10 weeks post op and they have really settled down. I have hardly any scarring and the foot is a good colour. I have been completely mobile through the whole process and it wasnt anything like i expected it to be. I was back at work after 2 weeks in the office and driving at 4.5 weeks. I have bought a pair of shoes and boots in a size larger as i still cant get into my old shoes comfortably. We all heal at different rates and i think you have to listen to your body and rest if you need to. I wish you well with your recovery. Kind regards Sue
I had bunion surgery yesterday. Today the pain is tremendous. When can I expect it to subside a little?
Hi,
If your bone was not cut and refix, then your recovery should be faster. Everybody is not the same, therefore healing process is different but I think in your case it should be less than six months.
