Would really appreciate some advice/info regarding diabetes insipidus induced by alcohol

I have not been diagnosed with diabetes but for quite some time with all health issues I suffer from I feel it can be from some type of diabetes or early stages.

Family history no one has diabetes except my grandad who was diagnosed in his 70's and does not use insulin it's controlled by tablets.

My personal story is I am constantly dehydrated. .. but I don't feel thirsty but my urine is either yellow or dark yellow morning to night no matter how much water I drink.

Except for when I drink alcohol with I do drink fair bit more than I should.

When I drink alcohol I begin to urinate frequently to the point my urine becomes completely clear.

I suffer with constipation or diarrhoea frequently I was diagnosed with is but I think it's colitis I intend to see gp but I'm also considering asking for test of diabetes but very unclear as to what I need tested for

I put my gastric issues down to drinking and losing fluids this way but I have in past few months made a point to drink more water but never seems enough.

Urine either yellow to really dark I urinate 3/ 4 a day. But when I drink alcohol I urinate 10+ and it's clear

Hi Jessica, the gastric issues may indicate hypothyroidism. Do you have any other hypothyroid symptoms such as dry skin, thin get hair, low energy, weight gain? Do a search for hypothyroid symptoms to check. Nterestingly, there's a huge overlap between hypothyroid and diabetes symptoms.

​Also, magnesium deficiency as well as B6 and B12 deficiencies can be related to gastric problems and constipation. 

i have severe hypothyroidism, my mother  is on thyroid meds and is diabetic. I've been able to work with diet and various supplements to get symptom releif.

Both hypothyroid and diabetes benefit for a strict gluten free paleo diet. This means all fresh, home cooked foods consisting of meats, leafy greens, root vegetables, fruits, nuts. Skip prepared processed foods like store bought salad dressing, fast food, etc. Skip grains, absolutely no cheating on gluten foods such as wheat, rye, barley, soy sauce, Roquefort cheese... There are hidden wheat products in everything. Avoid dairy. If you must have dairy, eat yogurt, hard cheeses. You'll need yo do some research on this.

Supplements: get a good quality multivitamin and multimineral, as well as whey orotein powder (exception to dairy) for smoothies at home, and some essential amino acids. The amino acids will help with many symptoms by providing protein building blocks for your body to heal.

Try the diet and supplements religiously for at least three months.

Diabetes insipidus is a very rare diagnosis therefore I don't believe you have it you may have typed 2 diabetes but again I believe all of your symptoms are related to your drinking alcohol. Still I would see your gp and explain your symptoms and see what he or she thinks. But all of the symptoms you are describing my sister had as well and she was a drinker. She thought she may have diabetes insipidus like I have but I have central diabetes insipidus and I was born with it. I have the inherited form and my aunt had it and both my mom and grandma had to be carriers to pass it to my aunt and then to me. But to have 2 people in the same family like my brothers and sisters having it would be even rarer than just me getting it. I have 4 children and none of them have it. So I didn't pass it to any of them. I am also one of 6 kids and none of my brothers and sisters got it either. Type 2 diabetes would be more likely but I don't believe you have this either otherwise you would be having other symptoms than just the urine issue.

Bella, good recommendations. I agree that rare diagnoses should be looked at as a last resort. Seems like the best approach, Jessica, is to start by cleaning up your lifestyle, diet and nutrition before you have problems that are irreversible. It won't hurt to eat healthier, and you'll do yourself a favor for life.
