I just want to write this for anyone who has recently been diagnosed with scabies and is feeling very hopeless. (I don't doubt that some of the people on here truly have been struggling with this for a very long time, or maybe another condition that is misdiagnosed as Scabies.) But when you know nothing about Scabies and you come across these forums it is extremely disheartening, and you end up convinced that you will never get rid of it.

By the time I was diagnosed with scabies my legs were absolutely destroyed by the buggers. It started with one itchy bump, which I didn't feel constituted a visit to my doctor, and by the time I came back from camping and was able to make an appt. It had spread rapidly. I was prescribed 5% permethrin which is available behind the counter. I used it exactly as the packaging directed (Only I applied it to my face as well because I'm paranoid) two treatments, one week apart. I cleaned my house thoroughly, washed all sheets and pillows everyday for a week (which is probably overkill)

Now you're not going to see improvement right away, in fact it will get worse first. For me it was torture (I feel like most legitimate medical websites don't tell you about the psychological torture that scabies is), the itching was so bad that I hadn't slept for about 5 days and spent most of my time in a cold bath as that was the only thing that have me relief, this is the only time in my life I've experienced legitimate depression. Slowly (very slowly) things will get better. It took 6 weeks from my first treatment for my itching to go away completely. It's extremely hard to believe the scabies are gone when the itching and bumps last for so long (especially with these forums where people tell you scabies live in your walls and you have to bathe in bleach to get rid of them).

It was a long haul, but they did go away with just the average treatment. There's not alot of info online about Scabies but I believe that it's because it truly is just that easy to get rid of.

I'm having trouble getting out all my thoughts in a cohesive manor but what I'm trying to get across is you will be cured. It will be hard to stay positive, but just focus on relieveing your symptoms. Heres my suggestion:

Take very cold baths (or showers but I found baths better) followed by:

-spraying affected areas with Holista tea tree oil, not because tea tree oil "kills scabies" but because the Holista spray has peppermint in it as well which is very soothing

-rubbing on Eucerin calming cream

This combination fave me relief from itching for 45mins-1hr outside of the bath.

Stay positive, and stay off of these forums!

Merci Elle pour tes mots encourageants. J'avais besoin d'entendre quelque chose qui me donnerait de l'espoir. Je n'ai aucun doute que certaines personnes guérissent facilement. Mon mari n'en avait pas, a été guéri avec le traitement régulier. Pas moi ! Je suis maintenant couverte de la tête aux pieds de soufre, d'essence et d'alcool jour et nuit depuis 2 semaines maintenant, j'ai toujours de nouvelles traces qui apparaissent. Je vais passer à l'huile de gant demain juste pour donner un peu de repos à ma peau du soufre, je suis un désastre ! Tellement déprimée ! Je n'ai jamais été aussi bas. Presque six mois maintenant et plus d'argent. Si je n'étais pas une telle lâche, je me tuerais ! J'ai des toutous qui dépendent de moi, j'avais la gale il y a environ 15 ans et la crème et le nettoyage ont fonctionné. Pas cette fois ! Je ne sais pas quoi faire d'autre. Je n'ai aucun soutien. Mon mari en a marre de m'écouter. Personne sur cette terre à qui parler sauf ce forum.

I'm just wondering if you ever had visiable track marks? 

I'm not sure if I've got scabies as doctors are confused. 

The symptoms are intense itching that keeps me up all night.

Tiny red spots on my skin that just disappear so it's hard to tell. 

Occasionally I get red lines that are roughly the length of finger a nail. I have tried a scabies treatment roughly a month ago and still itching unfortunately a few days ago it has become unbearable and got significantly worse and the red lines are appearing again. Does this sound anything like your experience? 

Is it normal for all the symptoms to get worse a while after treatment?

Bonjour Marie, oui, il y a aussi des lignes rouges ainsi que des bosses qui apparaissent et disparaissent. Cela fait six mois que je vis un enfer. Vous devez traiter de manière agressive avec des produits topiques de la tête aux pieds. Du soufre du magasin de jardin mélangé à de la vaseline épaisse nuit et jour. De l'ivermectine de la boutique d'alimentation tous les jours pendant 35 jours. Je suis au jour 5, aucun signe d'eux pour l'instant. Je continue de nettoyer, laver et passer l'aspirateur tous les jours. Si ils ne sont pas partis pour de bon, je ne sais pas quoi faire d'autre ! Bonne chance, l'huile de neem à pleine concentration est meilleure pour la peau et empêche leur reproduction, donc je l'utilise aussi pour donner un peu de repos à ma peau. Traitez les animaux et votre cuir chevelu ! Je m'enduis de neem et je porte une charlotte de douche.

Sounds like scabies then but it's so hard to get any help from docs. ( cos you can't hardly see anything on my skin) 

Have you had this problem? 

Also it doesn't make sense I did a treatment recently & was very thorough and  even moved house etc. Like I mentioned it seemed to work for a month ish I was sleeping then it's all started again but worse than before. 

What I don't understand is I've deffinatly not come into contact with anything that's infected from before my treatment. 

I'm totally confused how I can have caught it again...!? 

Surely it's not that common?  I've not had any intimate contact with anyone. 

Unless it's possible it can stay dormant? 

Or the treatment has worked but it's just got worse before it gets better?

Though it's so bad at night now & worse than before I treated  I can't beleave it's post scabies.

Ils sont dormants. Je suis allé chez 3 médecins, ils m'ont juste donné du perméthrine et deux doses d'ivermectine. J'ai vu un post d'un médecin qui en avait et il a pris de l'ivermectine. Tous les jours pendant 35 jours. JE PRENDS deux comprimés chaque jour maintenant ainsi que du soufre et des clous de girofle en alternance de la tête aux pieds. Les médecins n'ont aucune idée. Restez sur les forums et essayez les remèdes qui ont fonctionné pour les autres. Je déteste prendre du poison, mais cela semble être sans danger jusqu'à présent. Jusqu'à présent, les acariens sont partis depuis 5 jours maintenant. J'ai pris du moxidenton, qui est étudié pour les humains. Il est dans la pâte pour chevaux Quest. Cela n'a pas fonctionné. C'était dévastateur lorsqu'ils sont revenus après quelques jours. Certaines personnes prennent de l'ivermectine pendant un an. Si je dois le faire, je le ferai. Je préférerais mourir plutôt que de vivre comme ça. Ce sont des super bactéries qui ont développé une immunité contre tous les protocoles réguliers.

Yeah seems strange some people get rid of it so easily and others it's harder. 

I'm not sure taking ivermectin everyday for 35 days is safe tho it's still a very strong drug.  It's a lot for your liver to process as that's where it's stored. 

Sounds like you've got rid of it now tho.  What are you doing exactly? Are you taking normal meds alongside natural ones? 

Did you itch during the day when you had it? How often did it wake you up at night? 

How about your close contacts? Has anyone else caught it?

Mon mari a été guéri avec une dose d'ivermectine et deux de perméthrine. Nous sommes prudents mais pas fous. Nous essayons de ne pas toucher et de dormir dans le même lit et il n'est pas réinfecté. Les démangeaisons m'empêchent de dormir toute la nuit quand c'était grave. Toujours démangeaisons mais dès que je sens une démangeaison, je mets du sucre ou de l'alcool si je suis dehors. Continuez à vaporiser votre siège dans la voiture, le volant et le plancher. J'ai aussi une stéatose hépatique donc je ne suis pas heureuse de le prendre mais que puis-je faire d'autre ? Je fais confiance au remède pour que tout aille bien. Sinon, tant pis. Pire cauchemar de ma vie !

Yeah just be careful with treating I think some people on forums are over treating. 

This makes the mites resistant eventually! Also remember post scabies is a real thing you do itch for a while after still. 

I'm not sure how you can tell It is post scabies or a reinfection though. 

Sounds like you possibly have post scabies if your husbands never got it back from you. I'm sure he would have by now.  Also I think people who have had it before are very susceptible. 

Did you itch during the day? 

Was the presentation on your husbands skin the same as yours? 

Yes not sleeping is very distressing I can relate.

Il a eu une poussée bien pire que moi ! Il en avait partout, sous les aisselles, entre les jambes jusqu'aux genoux. Je n'arrive pas à comprendre. J'ai du diabète, alors peut-être que mon système immunitaire est faible. Ils sont apparus sur moi tous les après-midis. Puis à nouveau la nuit. .. ils ont commencé à faire des terriers sur mon visage près de mon œil. Beurk ! C'était horrible. On peut les sentir sur la peau comme de petites mouches qui marchent sur vous. Ils essaient aussi de monter dans le nez.

Seems strange he's never caught it back from you. 

I hardly itch during the day at all. 

That's why I'm confused about if it's scabies or not. 

The doctors expect it to look like your husbands experience I think very obvious.

Hi Marie,

I did have track marks in the beginnings of scabies, and im sure I did later on but I was such a mess of bumps and scabs. The bumps that come and go I experienced in post scabies for about 6 weeks after my treatment so maybe that's what you're experiencing! (Hopefully). I also found myself freaking out every time I got a little scratch, because they look exactly like track marks.

Yes I really hope it's post scabies don't want to go through it all again. 

I've always itched after the treatment but it's very strange that it's just got worse and more intense the last 4 nights so no sleep  (even worse than before I did the treatment infact) 

Im just wondering if your post scabies stayed  the same? Or changed & got worse at any point? 

Maybe it's possible the stress and worry of it can make the itching worse at night.

Je suis démangeaison mais sans bosses ni traînées. Donc, ce doit être des poux, j'espère ! Si j'ai des bosses, ce ne sont pas des poux. J'ai juste si peur qu'ils hibernent sous la peau (les œufs) et éclosent quand je serai hors de l'ivermectine. Je ne veux pas surtraiter, mais je pense que si je frappe fort au début, je n'aurais pas eu ça si longtemps. Qu'est-ce que vous utilisez ?

Ahhh i so hope youre in the clear smile Bumps are common in post scabies so don't panic if you get some! I know it's super hard to not panic but stress won't help a thing. Also I've never heard of eggs hibernating? Where did you hear This?

Some days were worse than others but my ppst scabies never got significantly worse, it might not hurt to do the permethrin treatment again..but don't over treat! And I definitely think that stress and worry make it worse, also theres not too much going on to distract you when you're trying to sleep.

I used ivermectin two doses a week apart. I'm allergic to permethrin. 

The second dose kills the eggs so don't worry about that. 

As long as you've cleaned everything no reason it shouldn't work. It's just about having faith and staying calm about it. I know it's not easy though just remember post scabies looks feels the same as scabies.  

What are you using? The ivermectin tablets? How hot do you clean everything? I've been washing on 60.. even this hot ruins your clouthes sad

Yes I agree it's difficult not to feel stressed & anxious when your woken up all night. 

I think I'll have to wait a little longer and see how it goes before I treat again. 

What temperature did you wash everything at? I use 60  degrees wash. 

What do you do about sofas? Soft furnishings do you just vac them? 

As far as I'm aware they prefer to live in bedding towels and clouthes not too much in your environment unless you have crusted scabies.

Vous avez de la chance que l'ivermectine ait fonctionné en deux doses. Le médecin m'en a donné et cela n'a pas fonctionné pour moi. Alors maintenant je fais ça tous les jours pendant 35 jours. Fou, mais j'utiliserais de l'essence pour me débarrasser de ces monstres. Je n'ai jamais été aussi dévasté par une maladie. J'en ai eu beaucoup ! Deux opérations du dos. Os cassés remis en place, diabète. Beaucoup d'autres opérations. Je veux juste retrouver ma vie sans m'inquiéter des gales ! La prière aide aussi.

Bonjour Elle. Je suis contente que cela ait fonctionné pour vous. Mon mari a été guéri avec du perméthrine et de l'ivermectine en deux doses. Je ne sais pas pourquoi cela n'a pas fonctionné pour moi. Tout ce que j'ai essayé a échoué et juste au moment où je pensais être débarrassée, de nouvelles piqûres et bosses. Les démangeaisons sont insupportables mais le soufre est fantastique mais sent mauvais et est si salissant. Mon mari ne peut même pas en parler avec moi. Je n'ai personne à qui parler de cela. Je suis si reconnaissante envers des personnes comme vous qui viennent sur ces forums et partagent ce qu'elles ont essayé.
