I just want to write this for anyone who has recently been diagnosed with scabies and is feeling very hopeless. (I don't doubt that some of the people on here truly have been struggling with this for a very long time, or maybe another condition that is misdiagnosed as Scabies.) But when you know nothing about Scabies and you come across these forums it is extremely disheartening, and you end up convinced that you will never get rid of it.

By the time I was diagnosed with scabies my legs were absolutely destroyed by the buggers. It started with one itchy bump, which I didn't feel constituted a visit to my doctor, and by the time I came back from camping and was able to make an appt. It had spread rapidly. I was prescribed 5% permethrin which is available behind the counter. I used it exactly as the packaging directed (Only I applied it to my face as well because I'm paranoid) two treatments, one week apart. I cleaned my house thoroughly, washed all sheets and pillows everyday for a week (which is probably overkill)

Now you're not going to see improvement right away, in fact it will get worse first. For me it was torture (I feel like most legitimate medical websites don't tell you about the psychological torture that scabies is), the itching was so bad that I hadn't slept for about 5 days and spent most of my time in a cold bath as that was the only thing that have me relief, this is the only time in my life I've experienced legitimate depression. Slowly (very slowly) things will get better. It took 6 weeks from my first treatment for my itching to go away completely. It's extremely hard to believe the scabies are gone when the itching and bumps last for so long (especially with these forums where people tell you scabies live in your walls and you have to bathe in bleach to get rid of them).

It was a long haul, but they did go away with just the average treatment. There's not alot of info online about Scabies but I believe that it's because it truly is just that easy to get rid of.

I'm having trouble getting out all my thoughts in a cohesive manor but what I'm trying to get across is you will be cured. It will be hard to stay positive, but just focus on relieveing your symptoms. Heres my suggestion:

Take very cold baths (or showers but I found baths better) followed by:

-spraying affected areas with Holista tea tree oil, not because tea tree oil "kills scabies" but because the Holista spray has peppermint in it as well which is very soothing

-rubbing on Eucerin calming cream

This combination fave me relief from itching for 45mins-1hr outside of the bath.

Stay positive, and stay off of these forums!

Meu marido não tinha, foi curado com o tratamento regular. Eu não fui! Agora estou coberto de enxofre, gasolina e álcool da cabeça aos pés, dia e noite, há duas semanas. Ainda aparecem novas manchas. Vou trocar para óleo de luva amanhã só para dar um descanso à minha pele do enxofre. Estou um desastre! Tão deprimido! Nunca estive tão para baixo. Quase seis meses agora e sem dinheiro. Se eu não fosse tão covarde, me mataria! Tenho cachorros que dependem de mim. Tive sarna há cerca de 15 anos e o creme e a limpeza funcionaram. Desta vez, não! Não sei mais o que fazer. Não tenho apoio. Meu marido está cansado de me ouvir. Não há ninguém nesta terra para conversar, exceto este fórum.

I'm just wondering if you ever had visiable track marks? 

I'm not sure if I've got scabies as doctors are confused. 

The symptoms are intense itching that keeps me up all night.

Tiny red spots on my skin that just disappear so it's hard to tell. 

Occasionally I get red lines that are roughly the length of finger a nail. I have tried a scabies treatment roughly a month ago and still itching unfortunately a few days ago it has become unbearable and got significantly worse and the red lines are appearing again. Does this sound anything like your experience? 

Is it normal for all the symptoms to get worse a while after treatment?

Oi Marie, sim, também há linhas vermelhas e conselhos de batidas que vêm e vão. Eu tenho tido seis meses de inferno agora. Você deve tratar agressivamente com tópico da cabeça aos pés. Enxofre da loja de jardinagem misturado com Vaselina espessa noite e dia. Ivermectina da loja de ração todos os dias por 35 dias. Estou no dia 5, sem sinais deles até agora. Ainda limpando, lavando, aspirando todos os dias. Se eles não tiverem ido embora para sempre, não sei mais o que fazer! Boa sorte. Óleo de neem em sua forma pura é melhor para a pele e impede que eles se reproduzam, então também uso isso para dar um descanso à minha pele. Trate os animais e seu couro cabeludo! Eu passo neem e uso touca de banho.

Sounds like scabies then but it's so hard to get any help from docs. ( cos you can't hardly see anything on my skin) 

Have you had this problem? 

Also it doesn't make sense I did a treatment recently & was very thorough and  even moved house etc. Like I mentioned it seemed to work for a month ish I was sleeping then it's all started again but worse than before. 

What I don't understand is I've deffinatly not come into contact with anything that's infected from before my treatment. 

I'm totally confused how I can have caught it again...!? 

Surely it's not that common?  I've not had any intimate contact with anyone. 

Unless it's possible it can stay dormant? 

Or the treatment has worked but it's just got worse before it gets better?

Eles estão dormentes. Fui a 3 médicos, apenas recebi permethrina e 2 doses de ivermectina. Vi um post de um médico que os tinha e ele tomou ivermectina. Todos os dias durante 35 dias. ESTOU tomando dois notches todos os dias agora, além de enxofre e cravos, alternando de cabeça a pé. Os médicos não fazem ideia. Fique nos fóruns e tente curas que funcionaram para as pessoas. Odeio tomar veneno, mas parece ser seguro até agora. Até agora, a sarna sumiu há 5 dias. Tomei moxidenton, que está sendo estudado para humanos. Está no Quest horse paste. Não funcionou. Foi devastador quando eles voltaram depois de alguns dias. Algumas pessoas tomam ivermectina por um ano. Se eu tiver que fazer, farei. Prefiro morrer a viver assim. Eles são super-bactérias que desenvolveram imunidade a todos os protocolos regulares.

Yeah seems strange some people get rid of it so easily and others it's harder. 

I'm not sure taking ivermectin everyday for 35 days is safe tho it's still a very strong drug.  It's a lot for your liver to process as that's where it's stored. 

Sounds like you've got rid of it now tho.  What are you doing exactly? Are you taking normal meds alongside natural ones? 

Did you itch during the day when you had it? How often did it wake you up at night? 

How about your close contacts? Has anyone else caught it?

Meu marido foi curado com uma dose de ivermectina e 2 de permetrina. Nós somos cuidadosos, mas não loucos. Tentamos não tocar e dormir na mesma cama e ele não está reinfectado. A coceira me mantém acordada a noite toda quando eu estava muito mal. Ainda coça, mas assim que sinto coceira, aplico açúcar ou álcool se eu estiver fora. Continue borrifando seu assento no carro, volante e chão. Tenho fígado gorduroso, então não estou feliz em tomar, mas o que mais devo fazer? Estou confiando na solução de que vai ficar tudo bem. Se não, que seja. Pior pesadelo de todos!

Yeah just be careful with treating I think some people on forums are over treating. 

This makes the mites resistant eventually! Also remember post scabies is a real thing you do itch for a while after still. 

I'm not sure how you can tell It is post scabies or a reinfection though. 

Sounds like you possibly have post scabies if your husbands never got it back from you. I'm sure he would have by now.  Also I think people who have had it before are very susceptible. 

Did you itch during the day? 

Was the presentation on your husbands skin the same as yours? 

Yes not sleeping is very distressing I can relate.

Ele teve um surto muito pior que o meu! Ele tinha em todos os lugares: axilas, entre as pernas, até os joelhos. Não consigo entender. Tenho diabetes, então talvez meu sistema imunológico esteja baixo. Eles apareceram em mim todas as tardes. Depois novamente à noite. ... começaram a fazer buracos no meu rosto perto do meu olho. Que nojo! Era horrível. Consigo senti-los em cima da pele como pequenas moscas andando em você. Eles tentam entrar no nariz também.

Seems strange he's never caught it back from you. 

I hardly itch during the day at all. 

That's why I'm confused about if it's scabies or not. 

The doctors expect it to look like your husbands experience I think very obvious.

Hi Marie,

I did have track marks in the beginnings of scabies, and im sure I did later on but I was such a mess of bumps and scabs. The bumps that come and go I experienced in post scabies for about 6 weeks after my treatment so maybe that's what you're experiencing! (Hopefully). I also found myself freaking out every time I got a little scratch, because they look exactly like track marks.

Yes I really hope it's post scabies don't want to go through it all again. 

I've always itched after the treatment but it's very strange that it's just got worse and more intense the last 4 nights so no sleep  (even worse than before I did the treatment infact) 

Im just wondering if your post scabies stayed  the same? Or changed & got worse at any point? 

Maybe it's possible the stress and worry of it can make the itching worse at night.

Estou com coceira, mas sem caroços ou riscos. Deve ser piolho, espero! Se eu tiver caroços, então não é piolho. Estou com tanto medo de que eles hibernem sob a pele (os ovos) e eclodam quando eu parar de tomar ivermectina. Não quero tratar em excesso, mas acho que se eu atacar forte no início, não teria tido isso por tanto tempo. O que você está usando?

Ahhh i so hope youre in the clear Bumps are common in post scabies so don't panic if you get some! I know it's super hard to not panic but stress won't help a thing. Also I've never heard of eggs hibernating? Where did you hear This?

Some days were worse than others but my ppst scabies never got significantly worse, it might not hurt to do the permethrin treatment again..but don't over treat! And I definitely think that stress and worry make it worse, also theres not too much going on to distract you when you're trying to sleep.

I used ivermectin two doses a week apart. I'm allergic to permethrin. 

The second dose kills the eggs so don't worry about that. 

As long as you've cleaned everything no reason it shouldn't work. It's just about having faith and staying calm about it. I know it's not easy though just remember post scabies looks feels the same as scabies.  

What are you using? The ivermectin tablets? How hot do you clean everything? I've been washing on 60.. even this hot ruins your clouthes

Yes I agree it's difficult not to feel stressed & anxious when your woken up all night. 

I think I'll have to wait a little longer and see how it goes before I treat again. 

What temperature did you wash everything at? I use 60  degrees wash. 

What do you do about sofas? Soft furnishings do you just vac them? 

As far as I'm aware they prefer to live in bedding towels and clouthes not too much in your environment unless you have crusted scabies.

Você teve sorte que o ivermectina funcionou em duas doses. O médico me deu isso e não funcionou para mim. Agora estou fazendo isso todos os dias por 35 dias. Loucura, mas eu usaria gasolina para me livrar desses monstros. Nunca fui tão devastado por uma doença. Já tive muitas! Duas operações nas costas. Ossos quebrados reajustados, diabetes. Muitas outras operações. Eu só quero minha vida de volta sem me preocupar com a sarna! A oração também está ajudando

Oi Elle. Fico feliz que tenha funcionado para você. Meu marido foi curado com permetrina e ivermectina em duas doses. Não sei por que não funcionou para mim. Tudo o que tentei falhou e justo quando pensei que estava livre, novas picadas e protuberâncias. A coceira é insana, mas o enxofre é fantástico, mas tem cheiro e é tão sujo. Meu marido nem consegue falar sobre isso comigo. Não tenho ninguém para conversar sobre isso. Sou tão grato por pessoas como você que vêm nestes fóruns e compartilham o que tentaram.
