Hi friends
Hope you all are doing well.
I need your advise its been 1week of my THR surgery .
When can i touch my dog my relative told me there will be possibility of infection however my doctor said stitches are in good condition they dont require dressing hopefully next week they will cut my stitches.
Can any one suggest
I would have thought as long as you make sure you wash your hands after petting the dog and before touching the area around your wound you will be fine
Just make sure you cove the wound and wash your hands, couldn't get my hands on our dog quick enough

hi amit,
I agree with maggie - to be honest, I actually have not heard about not touching your dog or cat after THR - most find big comfort in having their pets close by ... unless perhaps your dog is covered in dirt you might want to wait until stitches are removed ...
how are you doing otherwise and where are you in this world/
i am in Holland ...
hope you are doing well
big warm hug
renee
Hello amit,
I have never heard of that but of course all types of possible infection should be avoided.
We have a toy poodle who sleeps in our bed with us and did so all through my recovery from surgery. She is very clean and we bathe her twice a week. She has a wash every morning and evening but she is still a dog and of course carries a lot of bacteria.
The nurse who came every day for my injections, dressing changes, staple removal was well aware of this and never said a word.
I think that as long as everything is kept as clean as possible, it would rarely lead to complications.
I must say though, not having any dressing seems a bit odd.
Good luck for your future recovery.

Last Friday I had my pre op visit with my surgeon. I had a list of questions. My last question was, my dog is small how can I bend down to pet him? He said sit down, spread your knees apart ( I will have anterior) and bend slowly and slightly over. My point is, please do pet your dog!
We have 2 Yorkies and a mastiff. I touched them the second I came home. Actually before touching my wife. Priorities
Thanks gwen

Hi amit,
I was injected with Lovenox morning and evening for 2 weeks.
Lol, whose in front of the fog queue though - mastif or yorkies !
Hi Amit
my dog came in the car to pick me up from hospital! as others have said as long as you wash hands thoroughly between touching the dog and your wound shouldnt be a problem. if you are worried might be worth using thosevlittle bottles of alcohol gel ?
That was worlds best and sweetest moment
He came to pick you up when u were discharged from hospital.
Wow ☺☺☺
Am trying to send a pic of her

Our pets are so therapeutic ! I say. Touch Away! Just use common sense; keep wound and hands clean. My little Chewy was by my side wrapped in blankets 24/7 for the first 4 weeks. He got me through the worst of it. Of course, this forum was a lifesaver as well! Love you all!
